Ninjago the forgotten Phoenix (A Kai fan fiction)

Chapter 6

The sun rose over Ninjago city gleaming down on all the buildings, making them shine. The citizens went about their own days, doing shopping, dating, kissing, eating, playing.
The city was full of honking horns and playful screams.

In a sketchy part of the beautiful city stood a wide mansion that looked like one from a haunted movie. The trees were wilted and hanging by thread. The grass was completely dead and every once living thing underneath was as well except for the rotting flesh of the sewer rats. A reeking pond laid beside the dying tree that gave no home to any creature due to its lack of freshness and crystal clear waters.

Now you might be wondering, 'what's in that mansion?' Well just wait and see. ;)

Kai

Kai woke with a start as the morning sunrise sent beads of sweat to his startled face. Was that a vision he had just seen? It couldn't have been. Zane is usually the one to have the visions. Kai's chest rose and fell with heavy heaves of breath as he took in all that he saw. 'It's fine. As long as no one finds out, I'll be fine.' Kai thought to himself and as if on cue, Skylor burst through the door running to her boyfriend in a flash. "Kai! What happened?! Why did you scream?!" She bombarded the red ninja with questions suddenly. "Skylor I'm fine, but why are you here?" The fire ninja asked the red head. "I originally came to hang out but then I heard you scream as Nya was showing me her and Jay's inventions. So now please answer me, what happened?" Skylor explained to Kai. "Just a nightmare. It's fine." Kai shrugged but Skylor only rolled her eyes.

"You know as well as I do that you never get startled by nightmares." She pointed out. "Well then this is the first time." Kai tried to end but Skylor continued. "Kai Ray Smith! I am your girlfriend and you are going to tell me what happened!" Skylor scolded making Kai flinch when she used his middle name. "Fine. I had a vision. A vision about an abandoned mansion a — and it showed...other things." Kai simplified leaving certain parts out purposely.

"Why did it scare you so much though?" Skylor asked, sitting next to Kai on his bed and taking his hand in hers. "I —" Kai stopped, not wanting to continue. He always hated it when others worried about him so holding back was something he did often when he wouldn't feel good.

"Please. I want to help you." Skylor said softly while putting her arm around the back of Kai's neck, the other resting on his lap. "Sky I — I just don't want to worry you." Kai explained with a sigh in defeat. "I'm here for you Kai. If anything, I'd take a bullet to save you." She stated with no hesitation. Kai stared at his loyal girlfriend and let out a small grin. "What would I do without you?" Kai asked, setting his head on Skylor's while planting a kiss on her cheek. "You'll always have me." She replied with a smile.

"Well, when I was sleeping, the mansion took me inside and —" Kai stopped mid sentence and sucked in a breath. "It showed me...stuff that wasn't all that pleasing to the eyes." Kai explained, trying to play his normal cool. "Kai, what was in the mansion?" Skylor asked, her brows furrowed. "It was...me but it wasn't just me. There were other guys that were —" Kai stopped mid-sentence, still debating whether to tell Skylor what he saw. "Yes?" Skylor urged for him to continue. "They were torturing me for my powers. All painful ways I couldn't imagine. Skylor, I could feel the pain." Kai explained with all but confidence in his voice.

"I —" Was all Skylor could reply with before rubbing circles on her boyfriend's back then pulling him into a comforting embrace. "I won't let anything like that happen to you. I promise." Skylor assured Kai who could only nod and hug her back. "If you need some space I can leave." Skylor added, getting up to leave until Kai grasped her hand.

"No, please stay." He begged his girlfriend. Skylor smiled in response and sat back down on his bed. "Okay then." Was all she said as Kai pulled her onto the bed, fully laying down and held her in his arms. Skylor tucked her head in Kai's chest while Kai rested his chin on her head and they stayed that way until the two lovers were asleep on the brunette's bed, not noticing the consistent pictures being taken by Nya and Jay.
