I was sprawled on my bed, the blankets tangled around my feet, staring up at the ceiling. It had been over a week since Kirishima had told me to get myself together, and I hadn't made any progress. I still had no idea how to get myself together, even though now I was aware of the conflict inside of me, no matter how stupid or cheesy or fake that sounds.
I couldn't stop thinking about Deku. Not in a romantic way, mind you, but I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat, couldn't speak, without hating the fact that I still had no idea how Deku got his money.
Slowly, I rolled out of bed and walked over to the window. I opened the curtains just a crack and peered out, wincing at the brightness of the morning sun.
I spotted Kirishima out on his family's lawn, talking to Tsuyu Asui, and I felt my stomach clench. I missed him more than anything.
I snapped the curtains shut, angry that I still hadn't made any progress towards being able to see him again. For a second, I considered lying to him, But Kirishima was smart. He wouldn't fall for it.
Huffing angrily, I got dressed and heard downstairs. It was practically lunch time, so no breakfast had been laid out for me in the dining room. I ordered one of our servants to get me a cup of coffee and I sat down in one of the chairs.
A servant brought me the day's mail on a silver platter, and I took the stack of envelopes off, glancing at the backs of each one before tossing most of them to the side.
But one in particular caught my eye. The return address was that of Izuku Midoriya.
"Deku," I growled quietly, tearing the envelope open. Inside was a small square of thick cardstock.
You're invited to a celebration commemorating the life and achievements of Toshinori Yagi, aka All Might, the invitation read. Below the big, looping heading was Deku's address, and the date and time. It was scheduled for the upcoming Saturday, at seven.
Over the past few days, I'd forgotten about what I'd discovered at the library on the mainland, and my curiosity about All Might's relationship with Deku came back.
This party would be the perfect opportunity to see that kind of information that Deku might be hiding in his house.
Guess I'm going to a party, I thought, crumpling the invitation in my fist.
---
That Saturday, I put on my best suit and drove myself to Deku's party, feeling better than I had since Kirishima's manifesto on the sailboat.
When I pulled up to Deku's ridiculously large house, it was practically bursting with light, sound and people, just like the first party he'd thrown.
It took me a while to find a parking spot, and as I walked up to the massive mansion, hands shoved deep into my pockets, I started questioning my decision to come here.
I really hoped that I wouldn't see Kirishima.
I was almost through the door when someone looped their arm through mine.
"Hey, Bakugo," Mina said. "I didn't expect to see you here tonight."
I didn't have the heart to pull my arm from hers, so I just frowned. "Honestly, I didn't either. But there's something I have to do."
"Ooh, such brooding resolve," she said. "I like it. Wanna dance?"
"No," I said gruffly, untangling my arm from hers and heading deeper into the party.
"Wow, you don't beat around the bush, do you?" Mina called after me.
I pretended not to hear her.
