When I finished my meeting with Dave, my brain was sore from all the thinking I had to do, and my mouth was dry from all the talking.
But in our long, grueling conversation, we'd manage to get some stuff done. Once the papers were in, I was going to be the next CEO of One for All Industries. Then, after the signing, we'd hold a press conference, when we'd tell the world that I was All Might's heir.
Thinking about it all made me sick and my head ache even more, so I tried not to.
When I emerged from Dave's office, Melissa was there, waiting for me.
"How'd it go?" she asked.
"Good," I said.
Melissa beamed, making my stomach do a little flip. "That's great. How'd you like to go out to dinner, to celebrate?"
I peeked at my watch. It was just past seven thirty. As if on cue, my stomach growled. "Let's go. I'm starved."
Melissa and I were almost to the elevator when I remembered that Uraraka was waiting for me. "Give me a second?"
Melissa nodded and I walked over to the secretary's desk, grabbed the phone and dialed the number for our hotel room.
"Hello?" Uraraka's voice asked.
"Hi, it's Deku," I said. I glanced back at Melissa. "Um. I'm going to get back a little later than expected tonight. The meeting went a little longer than expected."
"Oh, alright," Uraraka said, a tinge of disappointment in her voice. "Has it gone well so far?"
"Yeah, it has."
"That's really great, Deku."
A pause.
"Should I wait up for you?"
"No, you don't need to," I answered.
Another brief hesitation on the other end. "I love you."
"I love you too," I said. I hung up the phone and turned to Melissa, trying to ignore the guilt coiled in my chest from lying to Uraraka. "The city awaits us!"

"So, Deku, what've you been up to lately besides fulfilling your childhood dreams?" Melissa asked, taking a bite of her salad.
"Nothing much," I said. "I've just been settling into my new house and meeting some people around the island."
Melissa smirked. "That's not all. I've heard about your massive parties."
My face heated up. "People talk about my parties?"
"Oh yeah, they're all the rage," Melissa said. "You're up there with Gatsby."
"I'd rather not be compared to a guy who gets his heart broken and then is shot in cold blood," I said, picking at my steak.
Melissa laughed. "I guess that's true." She leaned forward, a smug smirk on her face. "Who were you talking on the phone with, before we left?"
My face got even hotter and I averted my eyes. "That was Uraraka."
"Are you dating her?"
I nodded, kind of afraid of Melissa's reaction.
"That's great, Deku."
My gaze snapped up. "What?"
"Did you think I was going to be jealous or something?" Melissa's tone was teasing, but it got to the root of my fears. "I just want you to be happy, Deku. Even if that means you're with some privileged island girl."
