"Keefe, you know you can talk to me anytime, right?"
"Sophie, I told you I'm fine." Keefe smiled at her as they pulled up to the driveway.
"Bu-"
"No buts!" Keefe said as he turned off the car engine. "Plus, we're here!"
Sophie, grumbling at Keefe's ignorance, hopped out of the car with her backpack over one shoulder. Walking up to the front door, she opened it and was immediately assaulted by a woman with blonde hair and turquoise eyes.
"Jolie? What are you doing here? I thought you were still away at college?"
Jolie, who had stepped back from embracing her sister, said, "I'd thought I'd come home for a break. Haven't been in town for almost a year, and I miss it!"
Sticking out her tongue in a playful manner, Sophie replied, "Your fault for wanting to spend the summer with Brant instead. You missed out on so much mallowmelt."
"What in the world is going on, what is mallowmelt, and where can I get some?"
Sophie whirled around, remembering that Keefe still happened to be standing just outside the doorway. "Oh, sorry Keefe. This is my big sister, Jolie. As for mallowmelt..." She trailed off on that, fantasizing over the delicious pastry.
Rolling her eyes, Jolie stepped forward. "Who's this, Sophie?" Suddenly, her eyes lit up. "Is this your boyfriend?"
"No!" Sophie said, although her face still reddened slightly. "He's just a friend. I kinda missed the bus a few days ago, so he started driving me home every once in a while."
"Hm..." She looked at Keefe, scrutinizing over him, and then said, "I must say, Sophie, I never thought you'd be the type to be into blondes."
"Jolie!!" Sophie, now thoroughly embarrassed, turned away from her sister and towards Keefe. "Sorry, she's just been trying to find a boyfriend for me ever since I was, like, 13."
Jolie, humming as she walked back inside, said, "Hey. You don't have a streak. That gives me so many more options to choose for you." Turning back around and smirking, she continued. "Come on, Sophie. Bring your boyfriend inside. Mom just made a fresh batch of mallowmelt for us."
"Um... You wanna come inside?" Sophie asked Keefe, though her eyes were still averted to the ground.
Keefe's eyes sparkled as he grinned. "Sure. As long as I get some of this mysterious mallowmelt you keep talking about."
---
"Foster, how could you do this to me? Keeping such a glorious delicacy a secret?" Keefe asked as he reached for another slice of mallowmelt.
Sophie shrugged. The Keefe, Jolie, and herself were all seated at the dining table, a platter of mallowmelt in the center of the table. "You never asked. Plus, it's not like we see each other that often at school."
"Still," Keefe paused in between bites, "This is a crime. This stuff is too good. Your mom is magical, Foster."
"Well I'm glad you like it!" A soft chuckle was heard as Edaline made her way to the dining room. "Sophie, you never told me you were bringing a friend over."
"I wasn't planning on it." Smiling, Sophie grabbed a slice of the dessert. "Plus, how come you never told me that Jolie was coming for a visit?"
Edaline sat down next to her daughters. "I just found out this morning. So did your dad." Eyeing the older sibling, she said, "I hope this means you're staying for a week. It'd be unfortunate for you to have to go back tomorrow."
Jolie nodded. "I'm staying for the week. I have a free week anyway because all the professors are having a conference about fire safety in the building." [(*゜ー゜*)Don't kill me.] Turning to her little sister she added, "Which means I get to spend some more time with you!"
Swallowing, Sophie grinned and said, "I can't wait."
A/N I don't usually do these, but I present to you, an update. I am so sorry for not updating... for like... 2 months. But here it is, and I promise, I'll try to update more. (Key word: TRY)
