‘Will you be my Girlfriend?’ I hear a voice whisper into my ear. ‘I have liked you ever since the day you told me that you liked me. I wanted to tell you, but I thought you were over me. I mean after the way I treated you, I would understand why.’ He says again, as he puts his hand on my cheek and turns my face around to face him. I start to breathe faster and heavily. ‘Of course Christian, of course I will be your Girlfriend. No, you are right, I was over you but I always had this little feeling inside of me that thought you would change.’ I say as I put my hand on his cheek and smile. ‘Charlie, I am so thankful for this. I will not let you down.’ He says as he grabs me by my waist and pulls be closer to him, he leans in and softly presses his lips against mine. ‘Doe’s that show you how much I-‘
I wake to the sound of a truck outside my house. The loud beeping noise as it reverses into someone’s drive-way. I quickly rest my head back on my pillow and shut my eyes. I try to fall back asleep so I can finish my dream. ‘I wish that dream was real.’ I say to myself as I crawl out from under my sheets. I walk into the bathroom and turn the shower taps on. I undress myself and take a big leap into the shower. I lean back and wet my hair, as I do that I put my hands over my face and drag them diagonally down the sides of my face.
Once I had washed my hair I turn the taps off and jump out of the shower and quickly wrap myself in my bath towel. I quickly slip on a pair of ‘Bonds’ underwear and pull up a pair of Adidas trackies. I put on my Bra and a white singlet. Over the top of the singlet I put on my ‘Ghanda’ hoodie. I walk out of my room and into the kitchen, there I see my mother with another women and I am assuming her son, who is around my age, with short light brown hair and green eyes.
“Good morning, Charlie.” Mum greats me as she nods her head and smiles.
“Ah, Morning, Mum.” I say as I turn my slightly to my left, facing the young boy and his mother.
“Oh, forgive me. These are our new neighbours. Charlie meet Karen Sambell and her son Matthew. Matthew here is the same age as you, Charlie.” Mum say’s as she walks out from behind the counter and sits down next to Karen.
“Hey.” I say waving my left hand in the air, facing Matthew.”
“Hello, please, call me Matt. My mother is the only one who calls me Matthew, when I am in trouble that is.” Matt whispers to me as he winks.
“Charlie, why don’t you go and show Matt around the town? I’m sure Karen wouldn’t mind.” Mum says as she smiles and looks at Karen.
“Yes, that’s a good idea. It’s fine with me.” Karen says as she pats Matt on the back. “Have fun, and be careful.” She adds.
“C’mon, let’s go.” Says Matt as he grabs my hand and pulls me off of my chair. We both head out the front door.
“So, Matt, where are you from? And why did your family decide to move here?” I ask as we walk down the path.
“Well, I am from Sydney, and my mum and dad split up not that long ago, so mum thought it’d be nice to move somewhere else, without my dad and my sisters. So we moved to Fremantle.” He says as he looks at me and smiles.
“Wow I am so sorry to hear about your mum and dad. May I ask, why didn’t your sisters come down with you?” I ask, fascinatedly.
“Before my mum met my dad, he was with another woman, and he had a child, about 3 years before mum had me. So that is one of my sisters, Lisa. My mum and dad had another child after me, named Dani. She is 13 years old right now. And the reason why my mum and dad got a divorce was because my dad, how do I put this. Had his fun with another woman, and got her pregnant. And my mum didn’t find out until a couple of months ago. My dad was living two lives. That is my other sister, Lauren. She is 2 years old. Yeah pretty confusing I know. So, it’s obvious why the other 2 couldn’t come with me but Dani, she chose to stay with Dad. I don’t know why I mean, he’s… not like other dads, he’s special.” He says as he laughs.
“Oh my, that is one hell of a story. I feel for ya Matt.” I reply.
“Yeah, well, someone had to stay with mum.” He says as he smiles and winks at me.
We had walked for about 15 minutes, chatting about random things. I found out that he will be going to my school and that he is single. It’s weird because I never asked him if he was single, he just added that. I have a feeling that Matt and I will become pretty good friends..
