What we used to be.

The Question

‘knock, knock, knock’ I hear at my door. I threw my doona off of me and slipped my pink slippers onto my feet then walk towards the door. I open it to see a teenage boy, who looks to be a year older than me with shaggy, sandy blonde hair that fell between his eyes. He was roughly 6 feet tall and looked to be pretty muscly. Behind him was a boy my age, with brown hair that he combed to one side like the ‘Bieber’ did back in the day with brown eyes. It was Matt.

“Good morning sleeping beauty,” Matt says as he walks into my room and sits down on my bed as the other boy walked behind him and sat next to him.

“Morning to you too Matthew.” I say as I redirect my body to face the teen boys and sit down in my office chair.

“Oh, this is my friend, Alex. He’s from Sydney. He is moving down here to stay with me for a while, until his parents can find jobs here.” Matt says pointing to Alex, the strange boy sitting next to him.

“Hello, my names Charlie nice to meet you Alex.” I say reaching out to give him a hand shake.

“Nice to meet you too.” He replies with a warm smile.

“Charlie, hurry up and get dressed we are late for school!” Matt says as he pushes me into the bathroom as he grabs an outfit for me to wear.  He chose some skinny jeans, a white singlet, a leather jacket and some vans. Good Choice.

I quickly got changed and put on some light makeup. I tied my hair up in a messy bun and grabbed my bag and walked out the door with Matt and Alex.

Once we arrived at school, we showed Alex around the school and then Matt and I walked towards our home room and Alex walked towards the science room, where his home room was. I walk into the room and take a seat next to Kaylee. I don’t know why I didn’t sit next to Matt. I could have, I mean we do every other time.  What am I going to do about what happened last night? Are we a couple now? I don’t know. But I am going to find out.

“Matt” I say as I get up and go and sit next to him.

“Yes Charlie?” He says with a smile on his face while he suddenly bites his bottom lip.

“I need to talk t-“ I try to say but he cuts me off, as he stands up behind our desk and shouts. “Will you be my Girlfriend, Charlie?” He says with a big smile on his face, as I bite my lip. I look over at Christian who is standing up at his desk looking at me with a strange look on his face.

The words jump out of my mouth “Yes, I will be your Girlfriend, Matt.” The whole class starts chanting ‘Kiss her, Kiss her, Kiss her’. He looks at me and shrugs. He leans down and grabs my hands and pulls me up so that I am standing on my feet, he is still holding my hands as he leans in and gives me a kiss. His soft, warm, gentle lips are on my lips, once again, I feel though my heart has stopped. The whole class is looking right at us. Our lips are still locked on one another’s. He doesn’t try to pull away and neither do I. The kiss lasts for a few more seconds but then we both pull away and sit back down. Matt looks at me and bites his lips and smiles.  He obviously enjoyed that kiss, and I did too. The whole class were talking about the kiss through the whole two lessons. We didn’t pay much attention as we were both talking to each other most of the time. Matt has a plan for Kaylee, that we were organising for it to happen at recess.
