Last week had gone pretty fast and after meeting Matt and his mum on Saturday, my mother had invited them both over for lunch on Sunday. So I got to spend the day with Matt, again. We were going to walk to school together, this morning, but his mum wanted to drive him on his first day. It was my normal routine on a Monday morning. I got to school, put my bags away, organized my books for lessons 1 and 2, and walked to my home room.
“Good morning, Charlie.” I hear a voice say as I turn around, to see Christian, standing behind me.
“Morning, Christian.” I say with a smirk on my face.
“How was your weekend?” He asks as he tries to wipe the big smile off of his face.
“It was, okay. Thanks. How was yours?” I ask, trying not to look him in the eyes.
“Mine was fantastic. I went surfing, kayaking, you know, the usual things you do.” He says as he winks at me. Oh, I hate it when he winks at me, his personality and his eyes, were the main things that made me start to like him.
“That’s good. Sounds like you had fun.” I say, stating the obvious.
“Yep.” He says as he nods his head once.
“Charlie!” I hear another boys voice yell out.
“Oh, Hey Matt!” I say as I turn to face him and give him a big friendly smile.
“Yesterday was great, thank you.” He says as he looks at Christian with a puzzled look on his face. “You’re boyfriend?” he says pointing to Christian.
“Oh, my NO! He’s just a friend. Matt meet Christian, Christian meet Matt.” I say quickly, try to change the subject.
“Ha-ha. Hello there Matt. I’m guessing you’re new here.” Christian says with a frown on his face.
“Yeah, I am. I am Charlie’s new neighbour.” Matt replies reaching out to give Christian a hand shake.
“Ah, I see.” Christian says grabbing onto Matt’s hand to shake it.
“What classes do you have Matt” I ask.
“Uhm… Science and History.” He replies looking at his timetable.
“Sweet. We are in the same classes.” I say as I link arms with him to go to class.
“Awesome. Shall we go?” he says as he start to walk off and I follow.
“See ya later Christian.” Matt says.
“Bye bye Chris. Let’s hang out at lunch time.” I say as I wave to him.
“Sounds good, Charlie.” He says doing a salute towards me.
“So, what’s going on between you to?” Matt asks as we walk towards our first lesson.
“NOTHING!” I snap. “Sorry, just I am sick of people asking me if there’s anything going on between Christian and I. We are just friends that is it. Nothing more.” I say as I walk faster.
“It’s fine I was just wondering, Charlie.” Matt says to me with a friendly smile on his face as we both walk into our class.
We walked into the science room and took our seats. Matt and I sat next to each other, it was our choice. It got the class talking though. I mean, I usually sit by myself, I’m not the ‘coolest’ girl in the school, but I’m not that ‘nerdiest’ either. I like to think of myself as at least half normal. I’m not one of the girls that goes hooking up with every guy that comes to the school. They probably think I am one as Matt and I are, as you say, close. But we are just friends. I don’t think we will be much more? I don’t know.
“Psst, Charlie.” I hear a girl whisper to me. She had blonde hair with blue tips. She was sitting in front of Matt and I.
“Ah, Yeah?” I reply, softly.
“Who’s the new dude? He’s kind of cute.” She says looking a Matt and winks.
“Oh, his name is Matt.” I reply, looking at Matt and smiling.
“Cool, thanks.” She says giving me a warm smile. “Oh, by the way, my name is Kaylee.” She adds.
Thank goodness she told me her name, I honestly had no idea who she was. I knew that she started school last week. But I didn’t know anything about her.
“Oh, cool. You know who I am.” I say with a smirk on my face.
“Ha-ha, Yeah. We should hang out sometime.” She says with a smile on her face as she turns around to face the front of the class room.
“Who was that?” Matt asks me, with a concerned look on his face.
“That’s Kat- uh Kaylee.” I reply, quickly saying the right name
“Ah, right. She seems nice.” Matt says. “But she isn’t my type.” He adds quickly with a wink.
“Haha, to be honest I don’t know her that well, just met her then.” I say.
“Oh, nice.” He says as he picks up his books.
“Where are you going?!” I ask suspiciously.
“Just go with it.” He says winking at me.
“Uh, Sir.” Matt says innocently.
“Yes, Matthew.” The teacher replies.
“Can Charlie and I please be excused? We just remembered that we left our science books in our lockers.” He informs the teacher.
“Okay, off you go. But be quick.” The teacher says as he dismisses us.
“You Rebel.” I whisper to Matt as I pick my books up and follow him out of the class room.
“Ha-ha, I did this a lot at my old school. I am not the scientisty type of person.” He says as I burst out in laughter.
“I can see that.” I say grabbing onto his arm.
We reached our locker bay and we put our books in our lockers and as I was getting something from my locker I feel someone put their arms around my waist and I am suddenly lifted into the air. I look behind me and see that I am over Matt’s shoulders. He has picked me up and thrown me over his shoulders. Oh my, he is certainly strong.
“MATT! PUT ME DOWN!” I whisper-yell at him, while I repeatedly punch him in the back, softly.
“NEVER!” Matt says with a cheeky grin on his face.
“Matthew!” I yell, repeatedly.
“Charlie!” He yells back at me.
“Miss Robertson and Mr Sambell, My office, now!” I hear a lady shout. Uh oh, we are in trouble. That is the principals voice.
“Yes Ma’am.” Matt and I both say at the same time.
“Miss Robertson, aren’t you a devil.” Matt says in a sarcastic tone of voice.
“Shut up, Matthew!” I reply, punching him in the arm.
“SCILENCE!” The principal yells.
Matt and I both stiffen up and shut our mouths and walk behind the principal until we reach her office. We both sit in silence in her office. She gave us a lecture about skipping class and gave us both an afterschool detention. This wasn’t that big of a deal, but it was Matt’s first day. He was going to be in hell when he gets home.
