~Thirty-Seven. ~
Romulus stayed by Larissa's side for a few more days, until she was able to get out of bed and walk on her own. When she had successfully made a lap of her wing of the palace without falling over or needing help, Rosaleen decreed that she was safe to go back to her work. Though paperwork only, which disappointed Larissa as she was itching to hold her sword again.
He helped her back down onto her bed and she sighed as he moved away to the desk. He grabbed her chair and carried it over to place it in front of her where she sat on the bed. He sat down in it and took her hands in his as he did.
"You should probably head home soon, Romulus..." Larissa said in a quiet voice and he frowned at her words.
"Not until you are fully recovered," he said sternly to her and she sighed, giving his hands a squeeze.
"I am recovered, Romulus. You can't keep neglecting your work. Not for me," she said to him as she sighed again before she looked up at him. She gave him a confused look when she saw him fidgeting like a child who was waiting to be told off by their parent.
"What? What is it?" she asked him with a frown on her face and he looked away from her.
"It is nothing, Larissa," he said before a knock came at the door.
"Who is it?" Larissa called out after she sighed and looked at the door.
"Elissa, Princess. I have brought food for both you and His Imperial Majesty," Elissa called back, and Larissa looked back at Romulus.
"Do not think you are off the hook, Romulus...Come in, Elissa!" Larissa said before she called out and Romulus chuckled as he leant back in the chair, hands clasped in front of him with his legs crossed as well. Elissa walked in, pushing a cart with two trays of food on it and she looked at the pair curiously.
"Where would you like to eat, Princess?" she asked as she looked at Larissa, who gestured to her desk.
"At my desk, Elissa," she said, and Elissa nodded her head before she pushed the cart over and began placing everything on the top of Larissa's desk. Larissa then moved to get up and Romulus went to help her. She shot him a look and he sat back down, holding up his hands in defeat.
Larissa managed to get up and walked over to her desk where she leant against it, doing her best to not mutter the curses that were threatening to leave her mouth. She looked over at Romulus, who had remained in the chair he had taken from her desk. He looked up at her lazily before she gestured for him to get up. He raised a brow at her before her eyes narrowed a little and he sighed, getting to his feet. He took the chair and moved it over to behind her.
"Thank you," she said to him as she sat down, quickly wiping a stray bead of sweat that had formed and rolled down the side of her head, hoping that he hadn't noticed it. He moved around the desk now and sat down before he looked up at her as she reached for her utensils.
"Enjoy," he said to her and she gave him a warm smile before they dug into their food. After a few mouthfuls, Larissa paused and looked at Romulus again.
"You can't keep neglecting your work to stay with me, Romulus. What will happen to the rest of the world if you keep doing so?" she asked him as Elissa poured them both some more water.
"I can do as I please, Larissa. I am the Emperor," he responded to her and she looked up at him with a raised brow. He met her gaze before he smirked and gave her a wink and she gasped before they both started laughing.
