Abigail watched him for a moment, a little shocked herself. Of course! Why hadn't she thought of that before! Obviously Father would have sent out a search party! She wanted to smack herself for not thinking about that.
But it's not everyday you meet fallen angels and man-eating unicorns, she thought, excusing herself. Chase watched her for a minute, frowning.
"This is great! Father will be able to find me and I'll get to go home and be saved!" she said happily. Chase turned away.
"I guess so... but don't you want to stay a while? Aside from the unicorns, the island isn't all that bad. Resources are abundant and the island is fuming with magic," he said softly.
"Yeah! That's right! Maybe when Father's rescue party comes, I'll send back for Father and he can see the island for himself!" Abigail replied, feeling the excitement boil inside her. It would be grand for her to be rescued but at the same time be able to keep the magic and angels with her. She'd just have to be rid of the unicorns and the island could become a place of popularity.
"No," Chase said flatly.
"No? Why not? We'd just get rid of the unicorns and add some housing and-"
"I said no. I can't allow that to happen. I know the unicorns are a threat, but we cannot just go about killing them recklessly. And construction on the island would destroy its' resources. With that, if humans were to ever discover the portal to Magnia, there would be serious trouble. I'd rather just have your father rescue you and be your way," He said sulkily. He sighed.
"Or you could stay," He said quietly to himself.
"Huh? I... I guess you're right. Well, I think all there is for me to do is to wait for Father's rescue," She said softly. He shrugged and got up.
"Your choice. Anyways, I'm going in now. You coming?" he asked. Abigail nodded and got up to follow him. The rest of the day, she stayed inside and did close to nothing. She looked around the cave and sat and watched the ocean and occasionally chatted to the others. That night, everyone was awake and sat around the fire, except for Nova, who rested her head on Ash's lap and drifted off to sleep.
"So, could you tell me why you were exiled?" Abigail asked, but instantly regretted having done so as their expressions grew darker.
"I-I'm sorry. I apologise, ignore the question," She said quickly.
"Hey, no sweat, we're all open books, right? Well, I was an angel. A guardian angel to be more specific. I was sent to watch over someone, a human. I failed because one, I wasn't able to protect her when she needed me to, and two, I accidentally fell in love with her. So I was exiled for not fulfilling my task as a guardian and for looking at a human with lustful eyes. But, to my credit, she was the most beautiful human I've ever seen and I couldn't resist tasting her at least a little," He said with a chuckle.
"By the way, that human was me," Audra intervened, leaning on Charlie's shoulder.
"I was supposed to go to heaven and become an angel when I died, but when I did die, I pleaded with the gods to let me be with Charlie. And they did. For a price, though. I had to become one as well and seek redemption for loving someone immortal," She explained. Charlie stroked her hair gently and she kissed his neck.
"Aw, take it to the room!" Jasmine teased with a cocky smile.
"Just because you're jealous, huh?" Audra said with a wink. Jasmine chuckled and rolled her eyes.
"I was on the same time-line as Audra as a human. In fact, we're best friends and have been since our mortal days. We had to fight through the war that was supposed to end the world. It was prophecised that we would save the world, then we would go on to live old and bare many children. Buuut, that didn't go quite as planned. See, Audra and I fought through the war and just as it was proclaimed over on the battlefield, I was shot through the heart by my own hand. I had killed myself and I hadn't even realized it. I think I was on an adrenalin high or something. I... don't know why I did it. Anyway, the war then ceased, but many suffered and the prophecy was questioned because I died. That led people to question the gods. Because I had somehow changed my own fate in dying instead of growing old, defying the gods, I was given a choice to either be reincarnated and made to relive life trying and trying to fix my past mistake, or become a fallen angel and seek redemption. The gods sure do have stupid rules sometimes," Jasmine explained, looking at the fire.
