Abigail was awoken with her a start. Her body jerked up and her eyes flew open. She looked around her to find that she was still in Jasmine’s bedroom. She released a sigh and rubbed her eyes, the words of the Dream God ringing in her ears. She remembered what happened to Chase and tears welled in her eyes. She rubbed her eyes and said to herself with distaste,
“Now Abigail, do not start crying again. It’s not very ladylike to do so and in these circumstances, there’s no time to.” She pulled herself out of bed and made her way upstairs where she was greeted by the others. They were all moving about, unsettled and restless. They all seemed to be preparing themselves to leave- Audra and Charlie were grabbing swords and knives, Nate was sharpening his sword and Jasmine paced back and forth as if waiting. Star was in the kitchen boiling something that smelt of herbs and Ash was nowhere to be seen.
“Um...,” she started, but before she could continue, Jasmine cut in.
“Your father has arrived,” she said grimly.
“What?”
“Your father, the King. Him and his men have docked by the shore,” Nate said.
“That’s wonderful!” Abigail said happily.
“No. No it’s not. Ash is down there now trying to discourage him and get him to leave. We heard them talking about how they want to excavate the island because he feels ‘something good in its’ soil’. That would be the magic and he can’t take that. He’ll end up destroying the portal. He can take you though. We’ll rescue Chase, you can go with your father,” Charlie said irritably.
“What? I want to help with Chase though,” Abigail protested.
“No. You need to go home,” he said sternly.
“But maybe I can convince him not to excavate or investigate the island. Please, you must let me help,” she begged.
“I said no. You might have been in command back home, but on this island, you’re not. I am and I say no,” he said again, his voice growing aggravated.
“Well, back home I might have listened and gone to do some other stupid princess task, but you’re right. On this island, I’m not in command, nor am I a princess. That means I can say this; I don’t care if you say no and I don’t care if you’re in charge. This island has changed me, and if you can behave like a bossy jerk, I can behave like a rebellious hooligan. I am going with,” she said defiantly. Just as Charlie was about to yell at her, Ash flew into the cave with a grim look upon his face.
“I tried what I could to get them to leave once they’d found her, but the magic repel and detours wouldn’t work,” He said.
“So what did you do?” Jasmine asked. Ash sighed and responded,
“I made myself visible to them and told the King that we knew where his daughter was. He was observing the island though. He looked… hungry but when I told him what I was and where Abigail was, his eyes flashed excitedly, like he wanted a fallen angel. He’s… quite obviously powerthirsty. I think he wants whatever the island can offer.” Abigail glanced to the mouth of the cave and pouted.
“Father always was the type to like new land,” she said quietly. She looked at Ash and then at Jasmine.
“You have to take me to see my Father. You won’t be able to convince him, but I’m his daughter and the heir to his kingdom, so he will listen to me,” She said, pleading softly. Ash looked to Jasmine, who let out a sigh.
“Fine. We’ll allow it, but if he tries anything, I’m booting him off our island,” she said sternly. Abigail gave a small smile.
“Thanks Jasmine,” she said before the fallen angel lifted her off the ground, readying herself for flight. They then flew down to the docks were, the smell of the ocean and the image of a large ship beaming closer. Jasmine landed on the shore and gently set Abigail down. She looked around and soon caught sight of her father. He wore a long, flowing red robe and many rare jewels decorated his fingers and crown. He was on his haunches, examining the sand as though it was a rare treasure. He was mumbling and despite Abigail being quite some distance away from him, she heard words like, “wealth” and “popularity” pop up frequently.
