Betty took over the Riverdale Register from her mother when she turned twenty three and at first still had her mother working with her, but when Alice wanted to retire from the job Betty realised she couldn't do it alone. So she put out flyers asking for people who could take up the job to help her. She heard nothing for a week, until her mother informed her that someone had applied. A nice boy, she said. Betty smiled when hearing he would be there the next day for an interview, and went on with her day.

When her interview shows up at the register the next day Betty almost chokes on air when she sees who walks through the door. Jughead Jones, an old Serpent who she had hooked up with the week before. Jughead didn't know it was Betty who worked there before he applied, so he was just as shocked as she was.

Through the whole interview Betty can't help but think back to the evening they spent together, not being able to stop thinking about him being in her bed. He gets the job, though, because he is clearly good at wish he does - and a part of Betty wants to see him again. After the interview he asks her out for a coffee, just a coffee she thinks, but as they walk out she's suddenly aware of just how attracted to him she is.
