"Guys, meet Skylar, he's new,"
Almost everyone stopped talking as Mr. Baker started. I literally felt all the gazes on the poor kid next to him, staring down at his converse like the were the most interesting thing ever. He shifted from one foot to another, obviously uncomfortable with the looks.
I looked at him in apathy as no one made a move or greeting. They all started talking again, besides me who was watching he boy have a one sided conversation with the teacher. He looked vulnerable, shifting his gaze all around and not looking Mr. Baker in the eye as he talked. Oh yeah, this takes me back.
He could honestly pass for a girl; but the lack of chest proved otherwise. His hair was so blonde it looked white, brushing above his green eyes. He had no piercings on him, but I swear I could see the glint of a possible tongue ring as he answered something the teacher said.
"Hey," I sad, turning to Mason and Jayy, not even surprised to see they were practically wrestling each other for a pencil, "let's invite him over here."
They both stopped and shrugged. That's all they did before continuing their rough play. I rolled my eyes. Ruuude.
I pushed my chair back and made my way over, seeing that the guy was only nodding at what Mr. Baker said. I felt myself smile. Yep, he's like a fetus me when I first got here.
"Do you need something, Dahvie?" Mr. Baker said, and I felt my ears and cheeks get warm as I realized I must have been standing there, smiling at the dude like a creeper.
"Yeah. Well, no," I said, going to the dude and smiled at him, then my favorite teacher, "I just wanted to know if he would like to sit with us."
I looked at him for the answer, and out of the corner of my eye I could see Mr. Baker giving a wolfish grin. He laughed softly before speaking, "Dahvie was new here once. He knows how it feels,"
"Oh, yeah I do," I shrugged before tying again, "so. Is that a no?"
"No! No, I mean yeah. Yeah, I'd like too," he said. His voice was quiet, but I was surprised at how deep it was. Well, nature was sure on his side.
"His calculator is number twenty. You wanna explain to him?" Mr. Baker said. He was still smiling.
"Sure," I smiled, linking my arms with the kid, happy he didn't push me away. I lead him over to the rows of electronics and plucked his number out, handing it to him.
"Thank you," he said, just as soft. I smiled. Aw. He was like a puppy.
"Okay. This isn't a normal high school," I started, leading him over to our table, being sure to grab a chair for him to sit at, "we don't separate to go to our classes. We all have the same classes together. Like Elementary school,"
"Well, it is a K-12 school," he said a bit more firmly. That made me jump. Yay, I was helping someone! And he was warming up to me. Good job, me.
"Exactly what I said," We both sat down as I said that, but I had someone push me before my butt could touch my seat. I yelped as my back landed on the floor, and then groaned as I felt it start to bruise, "what the hell?"
"There were thumbtacks in your seat dude," Mason said, his head popping above me, looking worried, "you might like it in the ass, but I don't think that way,"
Pain forgotten, I literally started crying from laughter. People started giving me weird and disgusted looks, asking one another probably why I was on the floor. I even heard the newbie crack a small chuckle, and it only made me smile before sitting up, sighing.
I frowned at the seat. Yup, definitely thumbtacks. Points straight up. Yeesh. One sit and I'd be in the nurse. I wonder what hag put it there this time. It's actually been happening a lot. Not just to me, but to my friends also. I didn't mind about myself, but them? Hell no.
