He was hurted badly in a battle between the Uchiha and Senju by his rival, only for him to sacrifice his Sharingan eyes to his older brother on death bed, and then dieing.

~Flash back to when Izuna had to deliver a letter to Jiraya~ ~Izuna's P. O. V.~
Rushing through the trees I made sure to go full speed, I wanted to get this mission done so maybe I can be able to see the finals of the Chunin exams and cheer for Naruto.
I stopped once sensing a chakra signal a few miles ahead of me.
Slowly I pulled out a kunai and got in fighting stance as it started to approach.
.... This signal seemed familiar...
Soon a man with a orange swirled mask that had only one eye hole, wearing a black cloak with red clouds on it came skipping from up ahead.
"Tobi is a good boy! Tobi found Izuna-chan!" he sang in a loud childish voice that caused my eyebrows to twitch in annoyance and my body to tense.
Before I could do anything though I was sucked into a kamui which ment this guy had a sharingan.
Looking at the strange space around me I waited for my kidnapper to come.
Finally he decided to appear and with him was a weird half black half white plant guy.
"Who are you and what do you want from me?" i asked bluntly yet calmly glaring at them with my Mangekyo Sharingan.
"Is this really him?" 'Tobi' suddenly asked in a voice that had Izuna flinch slightly.
'Aniki? No he's the guy who killed my current parents! But he can't be Aniki can he?' my head spinned as thoughts rushed mixing up with rage at the possibility of this being an imposter.
"Yes I am sure this brat is your damned brother" the plant man said.
"Izuna, tell me one thing that only the real Izuna Uchiha would know about Madara" Tobi dared to demand making me stiffen rage crystal clear on my face.
"How do I know you aren't an imposter?" I growled out narrowing my eyes at the two strangers.
"Fine the let's make a deal, I will tell you one thing only Madara knows about Izuna" Tobi said still sounding like Madara much to my distaste.
"Go ahead then" I demanded.
"At my tenth birthday you gave me a carved wooden crow that was slightly out of shape that you spent months working on as a gift, but you also switched my soap with a well shaped block of mud that I spent the whole after noon chasing after you for revenge. "Tobi said.
Freezing up at the memory greef, dispair, happiness, and love filled my heart in a rush, but then warry, mistrust, and confusion decided to butt in as my conflicted gaze looked up at this Tobi guy.
" Time is short on our hands right now, I can sense your chakra and your Mangekyo is enough proof to reveal that your my otouto, once your done playing around in the leaf village, seek out the akatsuki and join them, I'll tell tjeir leader to be expecting you, once you join I'll explain everything that has and is happening "Tobi said and his Kamui swirl was the last thing i saw before my world turned black.

My thoughts raced like a tornado when I woke up and I had a killer headache.
Madara is possibly alive some how, he's connected to something called Akatsuki, most likely a group seeing as he mentioned a leader, and now my job is to somehow find an excuse to leave my village and seek him out in case I am curious.
And I AM curious, my brother should've died ages ago, but then again so should I.
I had to push done my raising hope and go back to focusing on my mission, so with a shaky breath I got back up to my feet and dashed again up some trees.
I'll make sure to make up my mind and come up with a plan to turn rouge later.
Naruto won't forgive me I go rouge 'just because' and dont have a reason for it.
