"I'm sorry your highness...your father has passed."

She knew he was going to die. Anybody with some sense would. The king had been bed ridden for the past week, the doctor was hopeful, she was not. Anyone who had been around Princess Alexandra since the discovery of her father's illness could tell you that she was unaffected by the whole ordeal.

The Princess did not weep nor did she shout in anger. She simply took a deep breath and said to the royal adviser:

"Have the Head of Church carry out the burial proceedings and gather the counsel in the court room."

Then she left without another word.

The servants whispers spread throughout the castle. Claims of the Princess' reaction.

"How cold!"

"What kind of person doesn't shed a single tear?!"

"She's heartless!"

Alexandra was not heartless. Only her closest servants knew the truth. Alexandra never loved her father and he never loved her. Years of not seeing the king while he was discussing war strategies or off in another country attending a wedding turned him into a stranger. She spent her whole life practically without her father...and then he died.

She felt slightly sad about his death, but it does not feel like her father died. She never had one.

Alexandra walks to the court room. Now is the time to discuss the future of the kingdom. House Hanover has been the most powerful dynasty in Europe for over a decade. Alexandra has grown up knowing one day she would rule. She must protect the throne.

A doorman at the entrance of the court room opens the large oak door, "Your highness."

Alexandra curtsies back before entering. The room is smaller than most in the palace. It's olive colored walls bring a sense of secrecy into the space. Inside is a large dark wood table surrounded by chairs, one chair being more lavish than the others. The walls are covered in many artifacts from across the world, the kingdom's trophies.

Alexandra sits in her father's chair and waits. Not long the counsel arrives. A group of men in royal suits file in slightly taken aback by the Princess in the kings chair. As they settle into their seats Alexandra speaks confidently.

"The king has died."

Some of the men audibly gasp while other bow their heads. Murmurs float around the room, but the Princess' words cut through the ambience.

"As you all know I'm still underaged to be crowned. I will be twenty-one four weeks from now, meaning the throne will be empty for a little over a month. We must be prepared for possible sabotage."

The Head of Arms speaks up, "Your highness, should we cancel the Peace Festival?"

Before the Princess can respond the Head of Church stands, "No we cannot. This festival is the perfect opportunity to find a King!"

Alexandra's eyebrows raise, "Find a king? Is this required before I take rule?"

She looks to the royal adviser and he sighs, "Um-Yes, your highness, since you have no heir at this time, you must have a spouse in the case that you die."

"And what if I don't want to marry at this moment?"

"Then you cannot take the throne."

A blanket of silence befalls the counsel. Alexandra has nothing against marriage, but she didn't want to do it this way.

"If I marry and have a king beside me...will I still have power?"

Everyone looks to the constable, he fixes his glasses nervously, "Theoretically, because you are the blood heir and they would only be there in case you cannot rule yourself, then yes you would still have the thrones power, your highness."

Alexandra smiles internally, keeping her poker face, "Then we will proceed with preparations for the Peace Festival, but we will be cautious. I'm assuming you are all aware of how vulnerable we are until my coronation. Double our guards and keep a look out during the festival."

The Princess stands and all eyes follow her as she's about to leave. She looks back when she realizes no ones moving.

"Start getting everything ready, our guests arrive in a week."
