Exam season was around the corner. Her core subjects were Psychology, Sociology, English Literature and Art and Design. All her subjects except one were based heavily on essay questions.
She was only running on caffeine. Her parents watched her study everyday, working hard to get what she has always wished for.
As the days continued by, she completed her exams one by one. She didn't even sit down to have lunch with her friends. She was more nervous about Psychology, since it was part of what she wanted to study in the future.
Sometimes she was procrastinating, she knew she wasn't perfect at her studies and that made her feel like she wasn't working hard enough. It had been 3 weeks and everyone knew she was over working herself.
And when she spent some time relaxing in her room, she would stress out even more knowing that she should probably spend that time studying, it made her feel guitly and that would ruin the enjoyment. Overall, exam season made her feel conflicted, everything was all over the place.
Usually, she was quite laid back about exams, but these exams determine her future. Her acceptance would come based on her predicted grades. For that she had to revise for mock exams to prove to her teachers that she was a very capable student. If she failed her mocks then her predicted grades would be low and that would cost her her place at University.
She was the first person from her family to actually go University, which was a really big deal for her. It was her time to prove herself. And that wouldn't be possible if she didn't spend her time studying her ass off. She wasn't fortunate like other students to have a good memory.
She was so stressed that she sometimes had nightmares that either she failed, or she missed her exam and wake up in the middle of the night panicked.
It was the first psychology exams and time ticked by as she furiously wrote away at the paper, hoping that her answer was detailed enough. Her favourite section was learning about 'attachment theories'. It was very exciting, for her at least. She planned her answers and wrote them with as much perfection she could manage.
When she finished she took a deep breath and closed the lid of her pen. She waited patiently to be dismissed by the exams officer like everyone else. She took her bag from the side and walked away, going to the library.
"Zahara! Where are you going?"
She turned around to see Mary walking up to her quickly. "The library." She stated with a frown.
"Oh. You should take a break. Over working is not healthy." She replied concerned.
"I'll take a break when I'm finished with these exams. It's just another week and they are all back to back." Zahara hated how they laid out the exam timetables, sometimes there would be two exams in one day, with hardly an hours break in between.
"Yeah. I guess you're right. Have you heard back from your university?" She asked, looking a little excited.
"No... have you?" She questioned, even more worried.
