I was walking, then running.
Houses passed me in a blur of blue and yellow paint, stained by the rain, stained by age.
The grass was wet, the sidewalk was a shade darker than usual.
And I was running.
I was out of breath, but I didn't care.
I needed to get to her.
I ran faster, trying not to think the worst. I ran until my lungs couldn't take the time expand and contract. I ran until my breathing was just fast breaths in.
My legs hurt.
My eyes burned.
Black chucks pounded against concrete, faster, faster,
And then I stopped.
I stopped in the middle of this... place.
I didn't know where I was.
I looked around, these green things with leaves surrounded me.
I couldn't remember anything.
I had no clue why I was there.
