"So all we do is wait?"

"Yes, I suppose so."

So we waited for around six months, working on other projects, reading, playing with Max the bird, then...

Dr. Max came running into the hall outside my office. He yelled through the not-so-soundproof walls that "One of the children has been bitten by a snake!!!"

"I'm coming!"

I raced outside and down the hall into the surveillance room to see what was happening. As anyone would expect, the walls of the camera room were covered with, well, TV monitors, connected to cameras on the island. Sure enough, the youngest boy, Luke, had been bitten.

"How do we cure him? That looks like poison! I thought that we only let non-poisonous ones onto the island, like grass snakes and stuff?"

"Well, I think that we didn't anticipate mistakes. I think that we let in a male and female poisonous snake by accident, then they mated, and when the eggs hatched, they all started breeding with each other, and ate the other snakes. So now we have mostly poisonous ones."

"Great. Just great. Now all we need is for-"

"LOOK! The girl is carrying him to the boat and putting him in. It looks like she's pushing it into the water and getting in herself!"

He was right. Jenny was hugging each of the other children goodbye and getting in the boat. "She should be here in about an hour, everyone! Set up as much snake poison medicine as possible at the dock. We don't know which type of snake bit him so we need to get them all!"

"Yes, right away, Dr. Snyder!"
