The day was over finally and my heart was still pounding from earlier, like my body was on an adrenaline rush. I couldn't explain why. I wished it would stop because it kept making my head foggy. As I sat in my chair, ticking off the list for the last few minutes I had to work, I found it struggling to focus. My eyes would glance at the clock, and then back down to the paper in my hand, then back again to the clock.
Just when it was about to change to leaving time, my phone rang.
"Megan speaking," I answered, making sure the tiredness in my voice wasn't discernible.
"Hello again darling, sorry to bother you so late again, but I'm afraid I need you to bring me something from the office." Mrs. Norton answered. I mentally sighed and looked over at the clock as it finally ticked to closing time, I could just take it to her on my way home though.
"No problem Mrs. Norton," I answered her, getting my notepad out.
"Thank you." She said politely. "I need you to get the file marked 221-XCS-13 in the bottom drawer of my desk and make a copy of it, then also pick up a folder that will be ready for me down in the printing department. After you get those, call up Mr. Peters for a ride." She listed off, though my eyebrows went up when she mentioned the person.
"A-are you sure? I would hate to be a bother to him or you-" I started to say, but she cut me off.
"Of course I'm sure darling. Just get the things on my list, and then bring them to me when your done." She said, waving off my protest. She didn't wait for me to respond to that, and hung up the phone, leaving me sitting there for a minute with uncertainty.
Finally coming to terms with the fact that I was going to get to ride in the limo, and the fact that I will have to once again go to Mrs. Norton's house, I got up from the desk and went into her office and started to look for the specific file she requested.
I found it weird that she keeps a file in her desk like that, and especially one with the numbers that are on there. In all the years I've worked here, I have never seen or heard of a file marked as such. And though, as I finally found it in the bottom of her desk drawer, and curiosity was eating at me form the inside out to look inside it, I just shook my head and put it inside my bag. Just as I was about to close the door though, my eyes caught site of a small silver pendant, resting carefully in a small corner.
Looking closer, I saw it was an open box filled with velvet cloth to keep the item safe. Looking more closely, I saw the intricate patterns on it and saw inside was a stone, but not just any stone, it was the one that goes on a locket. Thinking back, I didn't remember Mrs. Norton ever taking off her locket after her husband died, but as I looked at it, I noticed that this one was different than hers.
It must be her husbands. I thought to myself.
I smiled slightly and then shut the drawer back, then stood up and left the room. Going through my phone as I went down to the printers, I called up the chauffeur. After hanging up with him, I talked to the receptionist in the printing department and picked up the folder before heading out. After heading to the front of the building, I saw Mr. Peters already standing there by the limo, waiting for my approach. Then I stopped in my tracks.
It wasn't the thought of riding in the limo, I've ridden in one before, but it was always when I accompanied Mrs. Norton to meetings and other places. But never by myself just so I could bring her some stuff she needed from the office.

By the time I got to the house for the second time today, my nerves were already a mess in my stomach. why? I had no clue. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I was nervous to run into Mitchell again when dropping off the stuff, or maybe it was the fact that she had told me ti use the chauffeur. What special thing was going on to where she felt compelled to let me use the chauffeur?
Then I sighed and told myself I was just thinking too much about it.
Getting out of the car I pulled my bag over my shoulder and made my way to the door. This time when I knocked on the door, Mrs. Norton was the one to answer it. Relief and nervousness both flooded my stomach though, and I wasn't sure what the other feeling was.
She smiled and opened the door wider, inviting me inside. We didn't stop in the foyer like I thought we would, but instead traveled into the living room where she told me to make myself comfortable.
"Now dear, how did everything go at the office today?" She asked me as I placed my bag on the seat next to me.
"Everything is on schedule, Mrs. Norton. And I even already took care of the-"
"That's good, that's good." She said, cutting me off as her son came into the room. My body tensed up and I furrowed my eyebrows slightly at her strange behavior. "Look who's back, son." She said with a bright smile towards Mitchell. His eyebrows shot up for a second and then he smiled at me.
"Megan, what brings you here?" He asked, taking a few steps closer with his arms crossed over his chest. My named seemed to roll off his tongue easily and I wanted to raise my eyebrows in surprise.
"I was actually brought here on request of your mother, she needed some files from the office." I said, and cleared my throat as I remembered the purpose of my being here again, then grabbed the items out of the bag. "Here you go Mrs. Norton." My voice was sturdy, but I suddenly felt nervous again with Mitchel standing right there behind me. He was close enough to where I could feel the heat radiating off of his body and I turned my body so Instead I was facing where I could see him out of the corner of my eye.
"Thank you again dear." She smiled politely, receiving the folders from my hands. "Um, We were just about to sit down for dinner, I would love it if you would join us. I did drag you all the way here after you just got off, it's the least I could do." Her face held a polite smile, but my stomach dropped at her words.
Stay here? with them? Oh, boy....
