"Y-you really don't have to-" I started to answer quickly, my hear pounding in my chest.
"Nonsense, your staying and that's final." She waved off my protests. "Oh, and speaking of dinner, I'll go check to see how it's coming. Mitchel, why don't you keep Ms. Megan company." She said politely before standing up and leaving the room, a smile on her face.
After a moment of the silence that filled the room, other than the sound of my pounding heart, Mitchel had moved around the couch so that he was sitting next to me. He loosened his tie and sat back, one arm over the back of the sofa and then gave me a warm smile.
All I could think about at the moment was about the locket around his neck. I vaguely heard him say something, but my eyes were focused on the locket round his neck. It made me nervous. Was he the cause of my locket lighting up as well? or was the timing just a coincidence? When his amused and warm chuckle meet my ears, I snapped out of my crazy, thought consumed head and looked up at his face.
"I'm sorry, what?" I stuttered out, my cheeks turning pink."I had asked if you wanted anything to drink, but I can see your mind was preoccupied." He said, biting his lip in amusement, clearly holding back a chuckle.
"Oh, no thank you-" I answered but then he just raised an eyebrow at me and I sighed, knowing he wasn't going to take no for an answer. "Just water is fine." I said quietly, trying to relax a little bit more into the couch.
"One black rose coming up." He said, shocking me. without a word of protest from he, he got up from the couch and attended to the bar across the room, turning his head to face me as he walked. "Not to brag, but I can make some pretty awesome drinks." He said with a smirk.
"Really now?" I asked, a little more intrigued. For some reason, I felt my stomach get lighter and I was feeling more comfortable than I had a few minutes ago as I was leaning against the back of the couch to talk to him.
"Absolutely." He nodded his head, bending down behind the bar now.
"Where did you get that trade skill?" I asked, then slowly got up from the couch and made my way closer to the bar, I dind't know where I got the easiness to do that from. He gave me a smile as he saw me there and gestured for me to sit down as he continued to talk, a look of satisfaction on his face.
"I spent an entire summer in Barbados once and spent a lot of my time at the local bars. One of my best friends work there and during their free time, he would show me the ropes on drink making. Halfway through the summer and he ended up having me work there for the rest of my visit." When he spoke of his story, I could see him reminiscing on the memory, and I wished I could see what specific moments he was talking about. "Now don't get me wrong, there were some bad days and bad costumers. Over all though, the experience was fun." He said, a lop sided smile on his face. "It's about to get a little loud." He warned a few seconds before turning on the blender.
He continued to talk about his trip and some of the stuff he learned and I found it enjoyable to listen to it, to watch the expressions on his face and the different emotions flitted through his eyes. I would catch his every now and then as he talked, drift to me, or more specifically, my locket. It made me a little conscious of my earlier thoughts and wondering's, but I was more consumed with the sound of his warm voice as he talked.
Once he poured the drink, he set the glass in front of me with a smile and waited with an eager face for me to try it. I was a little hesitant to try it at first because I was worried about it being inappropriate fro me to not only drink at my employers house, but to be drinking with her son who might even end up being my boss here in the next however many days. Pushing aside those thoughts though when I looked back to his face which held a little excitement as he waited for me to try it, I lifted the glass to my lips and took my first sip.
The flavor of strawberries over powered the taste the Cointreau, and as I took another sip, I could better taste the Opal Nera. The flavors practically danced on my tongue and I sigh in contentment,
"Good?" he asked, watching my reaction with a heart stopping smile.
"Very." I nodded, then took another small sip. "Your time in Barbados was well spent."
"I thought so too," He nodded and proceeded to pour himself a drink as well. "So what about you? any fun stories to tell, or vacations you took, or mishaps at work?" he asked, casually leaning against the bar as he sipped on his whiskey.
"I don't think so..." I chuckled, shaking my head. "My life has always been pretty normal."
"That's no bad," He commented, making me look back up at him. "I mean, you could have had a rough childhood, or been bullied, or even been in a car accident. A normal life is better than that."
"That's true," I said thoughtfully, then sighed. "What I wouldn't give to go to the beach though."
"Yeah, the beach is pretty awesome." He smiled, a thoughtful look on his face.
As we sat there, sipping on our drinks, Neither of us paid attention to the time, nor did we see Mrs. Norton peaking around the corner at us with a smile on her face. Surprisingly, it was really easy to talk to him, and we ended up talking until dinner was ready. When Mrs. Norton came in and got us, we moved into the dining room and sat down at the table where Mitchell was sat right across from me.
The table conversation was pleasant and I found myself not feeling the least bit awkward around either of them. It turned out to be better than what I thought it was going to be.
When I left, Mr.s Norton had called up her personal driver again to drive me home, despite my protests. When he got here, Mitchell walked me to the door and bid me goodnight. There wasn't any contact between us the whole night till he had grabbed my hand before I left, and it up to his lips. His eyes kept contact the whole time and it made my stomach roll with butterflies.
The whole ride home and then night spent in bed, I couldn't shake certain feelings or thoughts from my head. I didn't know what to do anymore, or what to think.
Fate, what is this? is this him? or is this some sick game?
