Uncle Guiseppe glances at Gina's sauce-covered body, then replies very calmly

GUISEPPE
Don't you worry about a thing!

We'll take care of everything!

The good-looking waiter at the Ristorante TURRINI pops the cork off a bottle of champagne.

Thomas now has a somewhat remorseful and depressed air about him. Maurice flirts unabashedly with the waiter, who fills everyone's glasses. Dr. Kleber praises Gina highly, talks about her perfect German, her college degree, and her training at the Culinary Institute of America.

Gina washes her hands at the kitchen sink and marvels at the fact that she, of all people, has managed to get this fabulous new job – all because of a simple video she submitted. Not even a personal meeting was necessary! Her uncle smiles and replies that it must be because she is so obviously without competition and the powers-that-be in Germany must have recognized that immediately.

Thomas sits at the table with totally ruined make-up. As he leaves, Dr. Kleber places his hand on Thomas' back. As if in a dream, from far away, Thomas hears Dr. Kleber's parting words.

Dr. KLEBER Trends are dictated in the

States nowadays, Thomas. And we have to keep up!

In America they know what
the market wants, culinarily speaking, I mean!

Looking somewhat lost, Thomas stares far off at a distance, mumbling in a semi-comatose way, "America!"

Rain beats against the window of Thomas' kitchen. He stands at the stove, fills plates with heaping portions of pasta and then adds spoonfuls of a delicious-looking sauce. Maurice, his friend INGO, 36, and Thomas' girl-friend Gaby, are sitting at the large kitchen table.
