A/N: i'm back! here we go!
--
Camila knew better than to pretend to be sick to skip school. If she said she didn't feel good, her parents might make her take medicine and go to school anyways. Or worse, they'd try to take her to the doctor. No, her best bet was just to go to school like everything was normal at first and then leave with Shawn later.
Camila got dressed like normal, putting Shawn's hoodie on over her jeans and t-shirt before walking Sofia to the bus and getting on. There was no use in making Shelby come all the way out here if she was just going to leave before first period. She hoped no one would notice she didn't have her book bag with her.
At school, Camila got off the bus and met Shawn around the back behind the gym. He was still on his bike, leaning against the handlebars as if he were still sleepy. His hair still looked especially soft, like it had yesterday.
"Hey."
"Hey." He smiled, opening his eyes. "I think my parents haven't gone to work yet, I don't know if it's safe to go home yet."
"Where should we go first, then?" Camila asked.
"Food?"
"Works for me." She smiled.
They stayed behind the school, waiting for the bell to ring and the campus to clear out before they left. She'd cut class plenty with David or Shelby, but it was always a risk. Finally, it seemed quiet enough, as if everyone was in class. No one had caught them.
"Okay, ready?" Shawn asked and she nodded.
They hadn't done this in ages, but Camila wasn't very heavy and Shawn was always upgrading the parts on his bike. She put her feet up on the pegs on the back wheel and her heart pounded when she wrapped her arms around his shoulders from behind.
"Hurry, before someone catches us." She laughed.
"Just don't choke me." He was laughing too as she loosened her hold around his neck.
Camila turned and watched the school one last time as Shawn peddled off and they got back onto the road. It was nostalgic, feeling the wind in her hair as he peddled fast. It was just like skating had been yesterday, reminding her of when they were kids.
The smell of whatever it was in his hair was all in her face, making her heart race. His curls looked so extra soft and bouncy in the wind. She had to touch them, but she didn't want to let go and fall.
They passed a few cars on the road, and Camila wondered if people could tell they should be in school. She laughed loudly at the idea.
"What's so funny?" He asked as they slowed at a stop sign.
"Nothing." She said. "I'm just happy."
Shawn rode to the cafe that was only a few blocks away from the school. Camila stepped down off the pegs, noting her calves were already sore. Shawn chained his bike up while Camila grabbed them a table. They ate donuts and coffee, Camila blushing when she saw he was staring at her.
"What?"
"Hold on," He reached for his bag. "I've gotta get a picture of this."
"A picture of what?"
"You've got sugar on your face, hold on." He took his camera out as Camila reached for a napkin. "Wait, don't, let me get a picture."
"You're not taking a picture of this."
"Yes, you said if we skipped, I could take a picture of whatever I wanted." He said with a smirk and she scowled when she realized he was right. "So, smile."
