Upon arrival, I look around to see Gustav's lair hasn't changed much. He's sitting at his desk, with his massive array of computers laid out in front of him. He has the same bleach blond hair, the same long and lanky build. He knows I blinked in, but he doesn't startle, he just turns in his rolling chair.
"Seraphina!" He extends his arms out to me and we as hug, he kisses me on the cheek in true European fashion.
"How have you been?" He asks.
"I'm great! I found my boyfriend, Billy, the one who moved away, and we're back together!" I say.
"Wow! That's great, I'm happy for you. But I know you're not here to shoot the breeze so what can I get for you!" Gustav always seems to have so much excitement about him.
"Gus, I need a cool car. Something flashy, something that will make a good entrance." I tell him.
"Go big or go home as the Americans say eh?"
Gustav says in his accent which is a mix of Italian and English.
"I've got the perfect car!" Gustav says to me. He pulls out a picture of an orangey reddish car with a tiny horse emblem throwing out its hooves proudly to mark the car's producer.
"A Ferrari?" My jaw drops and chills run down my spine with excitement.
"Not just any Ferrari." Gustav rubs his palms together excitedly. "A Ferrari 288 GTO. One of the new models. I already have a pair of keys for it."
Gustav takes some keys out of his pocket and throws them at me. I look at them in awe.
"How did you get these?" I ask.
"A group tried to hijack a vehicle transporting cars to the dealership and steal one of these. They failed. Miserably. I had the keys made for them for all the vehicles, and since their arrest I've been selling them off covertly."
"Huh." I shrug and pocket the keys.
"You're not the only one I work with princesa, but you are the best." Gustav grins toothily.
"What's your price, Gus?" As it works, Gustav usually wants rare computer parts rather than cash.
"I need supplies. I need a new hard drive and I think a new screen, and if I can upgrade my power source I can boost my hacking speed..."
Gustav blathers on for a few minutes and I wait patiently.
Finally, he stops talking and scribbles a list down of what the parts are and where I can find them. "There. Should be pretty easy. While you're doing that, I'll start getting blank footage for the cameras."
"Got it." I say, about to blink.
"Wait." Gustav throws something small and black at me and I catch it. I turn it over in my palm. Earpiece. I put it in my ear, hide it with my hair then I go.
Looking at my pictures and Gustav's database, I blink in and out of different locations in the period of about thirty minutes, dropping the parts I acquire at Gustav's and then blinking to the next location.
When I have all the parts, I slide up against the wall of Gustav's lair, tired.
"Don't give up yet princesa, we still have the hardest part to come."
"We hitting the dealership or the manufacturing plant?"
"Dealership, it will have made sure the car doesn't malfunction no?"
"Smart." I say. I've stolen from both, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
I get up and look at his screen. He has security footage of the cameras all around the dealership up. I study the picture, memorizing every detail.
