"wilbur..." george let the word slip

tommy nodded

"i don't blame you george" tommy said, he had a smile, it seemed genuine

george looked up meeting the younger boys tear eyes

"wilbur was sick, i'm not stupid, he was just close to me"

"how so, if you don't mind me asking?" george asked wiping his eyes as they burned due to the formation of tears

"a friend? a best friend i suppose, he always said it was weird that he was best friends with a 16 year old, the day he- well you know, he messaged me telling me he was grateful out of everyone he had me as a best friend" Tommy smiled his finger still tracing the embroidery of wilburs initials

"i'm sorry"
"don't be"

the was an awkward few moments, neither knowing what to say

"where are you going?" george tried to start conversation
"florida" tommy smiled
"florida? what about your parents-"
"they kicked me out, i was staying with wilbur, i came home from the shop a few nights back and he was all beaten, he said he fell down the stairs but i didn't believe him. The next day he left and never came back. I checked his room and on the bed was his guitar, trench coat and beanie. a little note with my name on it, i had to flee because the police would come and they'd take me home or worse in care"

Guilt plagued george, he'd taken away a boys home, his best friend.

"Now i'm heading to florida to stay with my friend ranboo"
"that's far away"
"i know, i don't have anywhere else to go now wilburs gone"
"i'm really sorry tommy" george noticed how tommy was holding back the fact he wanted to cry

"it's okay to cry tommy"
"crying is for bitches" tommy weakly laughed wiping his eyes then looking back down.

They'd arrived at the airport and soon realised they were on the same flight, surprisingly the seats next to eachother

it's as if fate wanted to fix something it had messed up along the way

making up for wilburs mistakes

george saw himself a lot in tommy, they both were kicked out at young ages aswell as losing someone close to them as a similar age.
they both had to flee their homes.

George knew tommy was just a hurting boy deep down who tried to hide it away with humour and laughter, but george saw behind his eyes. Tommy just needed someone to stay, a brotherly or parental figure that wouldn't cast him aside

George put his head back as the plane started moving
"anxious flyer?" tommy laughed
george nodded
"you'll be okay george"

"thanks tommy"

"what's your favourite song?" tommy tried to distract georges mind noticing his anxious mannerisms
"probably photograph by ed sheeran, it reminds me of my fiancé" george smiled
"ED SHEERAN? public enemy number one if i do say so myself"
george cracked a smile at tommy's joke
"he isn't that bad"
"no george- he's AWFUL"
"biased"
"HOW AM I BIASED BITCH"

"tommy there's other people on this plane- hush!"
"they're inferior to me though" tommy nodded his head smugly adjusting his beanie
"you're embarrasing"
"wilbur used to say the same thing"
"he wasn't wrong" george chuckled looking out noticing they were now way in the sky, tommy had really helped put aside georges anxieties

he was a good kid
