A Break

Her fingers ran through her hair, allowing the light spring breeze to comb through it. A field of flowers and blossoms fell behind her as she trotted up the grassy mound. The girl pranced with a spring in her steps the rest of the way and set down her picnic basket. She unfolded the blanket and took out her iced tea, leaving the meal for later. The giant oak provided her just the right amount of shade for where she would dine. The girl took off her shoes and walked out into the sun, the grass blades poking at her feet. A whiff of fruity and minty aroma came from her iced tea as she took a sip. She stared out into the distance, her dress dancing in the wind.

Flowers layered the fields beneath her. The smell of pollen drifted towards her as the breeze leaped around. Its sweetness mixed with the scent of her iced tea. The blurry line of the cityscape on the horizon was the only thing that reminded her this was in fact still reality. The girl let out a sigh with a bittersweet smile playing on her lips. She allowed her legs to give in beneath her and laid on the grass.

Despite the ground under her feeling slightly cold, the cascading sunlight on her skin warmed her up. The world felt still and silent, aside from the occasional rustle of leaves and the whistle of the wind. The sharpness of the leaf blades against her almost felt ticklish. The gusts tore apart the wispy clouds like it was cotton candy. Her heavy eyelids closed on their account. It was unknown to her when she traversed to dreamland, but she had enjoyed every second of it in tranquility and away from her reality.
