Alex and Keagan

Chapter 6

"My parents are out of town, so it's just me and my sister at home. Do you want to stay the night?" Alex asked.

"If you don't mind. I don't want to bother you" I said. He probably has some party to go to tonight.

"It's no problem. We can hang out tonight and watch some movies, I might even have popcorn." Alex said. I do love popcorn.

"Well if it's no problem then I would love to stay over" I said trying to hide my excitement.

"Great, but you should probably tell your dad that you are staying at a friends" Alex said.

"Yeah that's probably a good idea" so I pulled out my phone that was still on silent and was shocked when I saw over 100 missed phone calls and over 300 text messages. Some where from Henry and his friends, Monica, my dad, and random numbers. Probably guys trying to 'win my heart'.

I dialed my fathers number and he answered on the first ring.

"Keagan where are you?" He asked without saying hello. He sounded worried.

"I'm with a friend right now, and I'm going to stay over their house. I just don't want to see him yet." I said to my dad.

He sighed. "I understand pumpkin, just know that I'm here for you, and your brother is being punished" he said.

"Thanks Daddy I'll call you tomorrow when I'm ready to come home"

"Alright sweetheart, goodnight" he said. "I love you"

"Night Daddy, I love you too" and I hung up. That was easy.

"Are you ready to go?" Alex asked.

I nodded and he took my hand and led me out to his car. The sun had already set and it was dark outside. We had been there for hours. It didn't feel that long.

When we got to Alex's house I was surprised to see that he only lived a block away from me. I never knew he lived so close. His house was exactly like mine too. Everyone in the neighborhood has similar houses, so being inside his I felt at home.

"You can go ahead and sit in the living room. I'm going go get some stuff" Alex said as he walked up the stairs.

I sat down in the identical living room of my house, and relaxed on the couch. I heard someone walk in and I turned think it was Alex, but instead it was a girl. She looked around the age of 13 and I'm middle school.

"Hey" she said and say down on the other couch. "Are you Alex's girlfriend?" She asked.

This is awkward. "Um...no we are just friends" I said.

She have me a look like she was saying 'sure you are just friends'. I was about to protest when Alex walked back into the room.

He walked over to me and handed me a pair of his clothes. "Here you can change into these" Alex said.

"Thanks" I replied back greatful. He just gave me a big smile and we stared into each other's eyes until the trance was broken when his sister cleared her throat.

"Oh hey Hayley" Alex said. "I didn't know you were in here"

"Clearly" his sister whose name is Hayley, says.

"Sorry Hayley, this is Keagan Brown" he says and looks at me "and this this my sister Hayley"

"Oh yeah I know who you are. Everyone was talking about you today!" Hayley said.

Great, even middle schoolers know about this.

"Wait....Alex are you trying to win the money. I thought you were better then that" Hayley said.

Maybe he is just trying to use me for the money. He never talked to me until today. Wow I'm so stupid. I can't believe I didn't think of it before. It was just to good to be true that he actually cared for me.

"Hayley stop it" Alex yelled at her.

She looked surprised. I don't think he would be that kind if person to yell at his sister, but he is probably angry. He lost his chance at the money because I'm leaving now.

"No, it's okay Alex." I said. "It was nice meeting you Hayley, but I think I'm going to go now. Cya later"

I hurried out the front door as fast as I could into the dark night. I didn't make it very far when I heard him calling my name. I might as well break it to him that I'm not a something to be won and given a prize for.

"Keagan!" Alex yelled. "Please don't go. It's not what you think"

"Listen Alex, you have to look at it from my point of view. You have never talked to me before. I've known you for years. You are over my house almost everyday, we went on vacation together, you are my brothers best friend, and you choose the one day to start talking to me. How do I know that you aren't working with my brother to just embarrass me even more, to make me fall in love with you so you can break my heart and you get you 500 dollars." I said with anger in my voice.

He looked upset, but I know now it's just all an act. I won't fall for it but i'd love to hear what he has to say, maybe I'll get a laugh out of it.

"Keagan please, just listen to me" he pleaded. "Come back to my house, and I'll explain everything. It's cold outside, and you don't have anywhere else to go."

"Fine" I mumbled and didn't wait for him. I started walking back to his house, and he quickly caught up with me.

I sat down back on the couch, and looked around and Hayley was no longer in here.

"You have 5 minutes" I spat.

"That's all I need, I just want you to hear me out" Alex pleaded.

"Okay" I said.

He was hesitating thinking of the right words to say. "Your wasting time" I said.

"I love you" Alex blurted out.

I was not expecting that.
