“What is the meaning of life?”

This question has echoed through centuries of history. There can be many different answers found. There are people who see the world from many different perspectives. When coming to an answer, you want everyone to be able to find themselves in it. You want to enlighten everyone who looks for enlightenment.

“Enlightenment”: Illumination of something, bringing something to the light, to the surface. Making someone wiser in a certain field. “The Enlightened”, also known as “The Illuminati”, are nowadays used as a ridiculous conspiracy theory, after certain movies and games used the Order in their plots. Now, the term is spread all across the internet.

Apart from that, there are the serious people. Those who truly seek enlightenment about a large amount of different things. About the meaning of life, included. What is life? What is its meaning? What is its purpose? Is there an upper power who gives us a purpose in life? As you would expect, there are many statements, philosophies and religions which revolve around this question.

I am not a great debater. I am no philosopher. I am not religious. I am a lazy teenager, who has many things to do as I am writing this, but no motivation to do them. I am a troubled person. I am a brother. I am a son. I am fatherless. I am a stepson. I am a boyfriend. I am an ex-boyfriend. I am troubled. I am weird. I am crazy. I am mean. I am friendly. I am sweet. I am low. I am worthless. I am an emo. I am supportive. What are you? At this moment, you may be dazed by all the “I am”s which you just read. I am many things, for many people. I am different things, for different people. Which of these people got to know me, and which didn’t?

What I am is depressed. It captures all these things mentioned before, and places them within itself. Depressed. Is that good or bad?

Here’s one thing to think about before I stop writing, and you will stop reading. One tiny thing: People think that the enlightened live in the light. The truth is, the enlightened are those who live in the dark. The enlightened see life for what it is. They are not blinded by the light of happiness anymore. They see its reality. Its cruelty.

“What is life?” you ask me. I’ll tell you in two short sentences. It is not complicated. It is not a piece of art, or a paragraph of words. It is two mere sentences. An explanation to life and its purpose. An answer to the question:

10% of life consists of a series of events, from birth to death. 90% of life is how you react to them.
