The Courtyard (chapter 2)

After eating most of the other servants in my quarter stayed up talking and hanging out, but I don't really know any of them that well so I just went to my small room. I wasn't really that tired yet so I lit some of my candles for light and grabbed one of my books. Once I started getting tired I put away my book and blow out my candles. I fell asleep pretty quickly because my eyes were kinda strained from reading in the almost dark.
Louis POV
I just got back to my room after my classes, they didn't end till really late so I was already tired. I heard a knock at my door so I told them to come in.
"Hello your majesty, I brought you your night clothes" Niall says while laying my clothes down on the end of my bed
"Thank you Niall, and please just call me Louis. I don't really like the whole royal labels and all that." I replied to him "how is Daisy doing?" I asked because I was so busy I hadn't had a chance to stop by her room and check on her.
"She already doing much better, the new healer came and helped her, she's Nelda's assistant" Niall said back to me before exiting the room
"I didn't know we had a new healer, when did she get here?" I was confused because I didn't know anything of this
"She got here about two weeks ago but only officially got the job a week ago. She's really good at her job, and she's really nice" Niall said to me
"Do you know her?" I asked still a little confused. He seemed to have at least met her
"I mean a little, I met her a few days ago but have only talked to her a few times, she's the same age as us." When Niall said this I was even more confused
"She's 13? Wow, that's a hard job at any age but at 13!" I thought that it was really cool that she was already working at a healer at our age "well thank again Niall, I really appreciate it" I said as Niall left the room.
I changed out of my royal clothes and into my night clothes which was just a shirt and pants, although I normally just end up taking them off when I get to hot. Sometimes I'll sleep in just my underwear and other times I won't wear anything. I sat in my bed for a little until I finally fell asleep

In the morning I woke up a little early and I just kinda took it all in. I just laid in my bed for a little till I heard the rooster crow which was my signal to get up. I got ready into the dress I always wear, my shoes, and my normal bun. I made my way down to the infirmary, but today was different then the past few days. It was cloudy out and a little chilly, I could tell it would rain but again it was an ideal spring day. It was soothing and relaxing, comforting almost. Today Nelda and I had to get to work right away, we had more patients then we had had the past week so we were doing lots of checkups, I even got to do some because there were lots of people. After a big rush of people it slowed down and we could just calm down for a minute. After cleaning all the tools we used to make sure they were sanitized for the next patient I heard laughing from outside the window I had always sat at. I went to see what it was and I had realized that it was raining out, when I looked out the window I saw prince Louis running around in the mud and rain while one of the governesses chasing after him. He was covered in mud and was very quick on his feet. Off to the side his friends were all laughing and so was he. I thought it was funny too how he was just running around in the mud and rain away from his governess. After a little I stopped watching to get back to work
"Why don't you go take the rest of the day off" Nelda told me "we had a busy day and you did great, I'm very impressed"
"Really?" I asked
"Yes, now go have fun for the rest of the day, I think Niall has the day off if you want to go see him he might just be around the castle some where" she told me
"Thank you, and goodnight if I don't see you later" I replied while packing up my stuff
I left the infirmary and went back to my quarter to set my stuff down. I just was exploring the grand halls and all of that, I saw some room I didn't even know what they were used for but they were beautiful. The Tomlinsons kingdom was beautiful and the castle was ginormous and grand and it was just so gorgeous. While I was walking down a hallway I saw a door that was half covered in vines and leaves. I never saw that before, I suppose it was because I've never been down here. I decided to go out the door and when I went out there it lead to a little patio area almost(kind of like the picture at the top of this part) there was a beautiful little lake with a river and huge waterfall. It was magnificent and I couldn't believe what I had stumbled upon, there were brightly colored plants and all types of birds chirping. It was so nice out there and so calm and quiet. I could tell I would be coming here a lot. I just sat there for a minute taking it all in before I got up and went back inside the castle. I had realized that that was probably once one of the royal courtyards but it looked like it hadn't been used in years. As I made my way down the halls just walking around I saw Niall doing the same so I went over to him
"I heard you got part of the day off too?" I said but also I asked as kind of a question
"Yep, I'm guessing you did too" he said as we were walking through the castle
"Yeah, we were really busy so Nelda let me take the rest of the day so I'm just wandering around" I explained as we turned the corner
" I was going to go grab some food and go eat outside if you want to come with, it cleared up outside and it's pretty pleasant out on the lawn" Niall told me
"Sure" I simply replied
We headed to the royal kitchen where Niall was grabbing food and then we headed off to the front lawn, it was so wide and open out there and it was amazing to just have a friend my age. We got out there and sat on a bench when he handed me a sandwich
"Oh I'm fine, I don't have very many silver coins left and I want to save them" I said
"Don't be silly, it's on me. I get loads of this stuff free and the least I could do is help you, please" he said while almost doing puppy dog eyes. I didn't know why he wanted me to have it so much, I was guessing because he was just a really nice person but I also thought what it he could tell how skinny I was. I ended up just taking the sandwich.
After we ate we just got up and walked around the lawn and talked and had fun hanging out. We learned more about each other but I still didn't tell about my magic or anything. I knew lots of spells but I didn't want to use them because it could get me beheaded if they find out it was black magic. Some magic was worse than others. Some would get you in in the dungeon, so would get you punished, some would make you pay, or get kicked out of the kingdom, and if it was powerful enough magic you could be executed. After a nice day it was time for us to head back inside and go out separate ways to our quarters. When I got to mine most of the others were already asleep and a few still talking in the main area. I went to my room and went right to bed. The next few days were kinda slow and not very much happened. It was now Thursday morning, I got up and went to the infirmary. It was also Nialls birthday so I was going to meet up with him later to hang out.
"Good morning Nelda" I said cheerfully walking into the room
"Good morning" She replied while mixing medicine
Today I was just restocking. Refilling medicine, making sure there were enough tongue depressors, all that stuff. At about 10 I went over to the window and didn't see prince Louis outside, I assumed he was probably in trouble for what he did the other day. I went back to work and checked a few patients. I also had to go deliver medicine to dungeon because one of the prisoners had gotten sick and they didn't want it to spread. It was actually cool going down to the dungeon and seeing what it was like. After I got back to the infirmary it was a little past noon which is when I said I would meet up with Niall so I told Nelda and met Niall at one of the long corridors in the castle
          "Happy birthday Niall!" I yelled excitedly while going to hug him, Niall and I had gotten close fast and we were already good friends
          "Thank you" he said, he sounded happy
          "So, have you done anything special yet today for your birthday?" I asked him
          "Well actually the royal family served me a wonderful breakfast in bed and gave me the day off so that was amazing" he was smiling so much
          "That sounds so nice, I'm so happy. You're 14!" I exclaimed
Niall and I just hung out again and played some football. Though it was hard in a dress
Louis POV
Me, Liam, Zayn, and the other princes were in class and it was so boring. I was barely even comprehending what they were saying but it was almost time for school to be over for today. Right when it was time I got up and practically ran out of that room, me and Liam and Zayn were going to hangout after class today but I wanted to say happy birthday to Niall again to show how thankful I was.
Back to your POV
          "I am so sorry but I have to get back to the infirmary, tomorrow we have to give all the new people who want to become knights there physical before they can apply so we have to set everything up tonight so we can start early" I said a little sad that I had to go
          "It's ok, I had fun today. And thank you" he said "maybe you will see Harry Styles" Niall added
          "Wait is he finally old enough to join?" I asked, everyone knew who the styles were so it was kind of a cool thing if you get to meet them
          "Yes, tell me if you get to meet him" Niall said while we parted ways
I went back down to the infirmary and helped Nelda set up everything
Louis POV
I went to go see if Niall was in his room and he wasn't so I just started walking around to try and find him. I eventually saw him and went up to him. He bowed but I stopped him
          "Niall you know you don't have to, you know I hate it" I said
          "Sorry, it's just kind of a habit" Niall said apologetically
          "I wanted to say happy birthday again and just thank you for everything you have done. Do you want to come hangout with me and some of my friends?" I said with a smile on my face
          "Are you sure?" Niall replied hesitantly
          "I wouldn't have said it if I wasn't, come on" I waved him to follow me and we headed to the lawn where Liam and zayn were waiting
Niall tried to bow to them too and they did the same thing i did, they stopped him and introduced themselves. We played football for a while, we played with teams of 2 and it was great fun. Then we all just kinda sat there talking for a little. I really enjoyed it and Niall is a great guy
Nialls POV
I noticed that from the lawn you could see the window to the infirmary. (He didn't know that you always sat there) but when I looked up I saw y/n and she quickly tried to get out of the way (but you knew he saw you. You laughed a little)
Your POV
I was laughing when Nelda came over to me
          "Why are you laughing" she said while smiling "did you get caught looking out the window?" She asked
          "Maybe, but not by prince Louis it was by Nialls" I told her
         "Oh, why did you bring up prince Louis?" She said jokingly with a smirk
I could feel my face go red and started getting warm
          "Um just cause?" Even I didn't convince myself
Nelda laughed and then we got back to setting up and at about 9:30 pm I went back to my room and went to bed.
