Ana
Grace called me and asked me to come see her at the hospital. She said it was important for me to come today.
Grace
I just treated a child that was orphaned last night in a car wreck. One that needs to be loved by someone kind hearted. So I called the social worker and had her join me to meet Ana. I think we might be able to get fast tracked as a foster parent for Angelina Donovan is two years old and is in an medically induced coma. She will make a full recovery, but will has emotional and physical scars from the wreck. Her brothers and parents died in the wreck. Her car seat was what saved her in the wreck.
Ana
I walk into Graces office and she explains about a two year old girl whose whole family died in a car wreck. She asks me if I would consider fostering Angelina with intentions of adopting the child. I fill out all the paperwork to foster and application to adopt her, without seeing her. She is a child in need and I will make sure she loved.
Caseworker Todd Anderson
I walk and greet Grace and the most incredible looking young woman filling out paperwork. She looks young, but seems to be emanating a strength about herself. We fill out the paperwork and finally go see Angelina. We look at Angelina and realize why Grace suggested Ana as a foster to adopt her. Without seeing the child's eyes she could be Ana's daughter. She is a bit bruised up from the car wreck, but she is in good condition other than her head injury. Too bad I am the caseworker on this one otherwise I would ask Ana out.
Two weeks later
Angelina
I wake up and can't see anything at all. I scream help me please.
Grace
Angelina woke up, but she can't see anything. We order some tests in the meantime I call Todd and Ana and tell them about Angelina being awakened and possibly be blind. The tests show everything is normal,
Ana
I finally get to meet Angelina and she can't see me, but only hear and touch me. They think her blindness is temporary.
Caseworker Todd
Angelina is sitting up with a doctor checking her eyes and he tells us that he doesn't see anything wrong. He thinks that with time her sight will come back. Ana seems to have made a friend of Angelina. She brought her a teddy bear that teaches how to do different things with her hands. A book that she can touch the pen to the words to hear the story. And some girlie things. Angelina has been asking for her mother and I have to be the one along with Dr Grey to explain about her family.
Ana
I bought things I thought would be good for a two year old and had no idea they would work for a blind two year old as well. Grace spoke to me and asked if I still wanted to foster and adopt Angelina knowing she might be blind permanently. I would never allow an impairment prevent me from fostering and adopting a child in need with an impairment of any type.
Caseworker Todd
I am here to see Ana's residence and wow is it a nice place and she has worked hard and fast to accommodate Angelina and her vision issues. Ana is an amazing woman. I have checked the rules and while I am on this case I can't be personally involved with the foster parent or the adopting parent.
Grace
We still don't know why Angelina is still blind. Her doctors have no idea what is wrong yet. They think it's possibly a PTSD that is causing it. At two I am not sure how they can or will treat her. It's a wait and see at this point.
Ana
Angelina and I are leaving the hospital, she has been to,d what we can about her family and they are no longer living. But she's two so she doesn't fully understand it all. So we tell her she will be living with me and a nanny or a manny will take care of her when I am unable to be there. But only after she has fully settled in and knows them. I have read all kinds of things on kids and traumatic events.
A miracle happened two weeks later Angelinas eye sight began returning slowly.
Caseworker Todd
We finally got the adoption started and it will take a month to get the final hearing for Angelina to become Ana's daughter. All medical reports are I and her eyesight is coming back. She loves her new home and she's still adjusting but her nightmares are lessening. The nanny and manny are great with her, they were well chosen. Ana said her father had deep background checks done on anyone who comes into her life no matter who they are.
Grace
I was thrilled when Ana brought Angelina in and let her actually see me in person. She touched my face and smiled at me and looked at my photos and had lunch with me. Her vocabulary was good for a two year old. We had her eyes checked and a ct scan to check on her head and make sure she has no brain injuries.
Ana
I told Grace that Angelina is still having nightmares, not as much. She still cries for her parents and brothers. I tell Grace that when she understands better. When the wills are read the families things will be moved into storage and their assets will be sold or placed in a trust fund. Photos and Angelinas clothing was boxed up. The neighbors had been caring for their pets. They had seen the news of the car wreck and had spoken to the family's attorney. So Ana brought them home with her. Two Siamese cats and two miniature chihuahuas. So we now have a wild house. Angelina is thrilled to play with the pets.
A month later we celebrate a new family member Angelina Roseanne Steele
Carla
We were thrilled when Angelina was finally a member of our family.

I old my newest grandchild and smile big for the cameras. Leave it to Ana to open her heart up to an orphaned child, one that she thought might never regain her eyesight. Her home remains set up for any disability it could be for.
