Fred, George, Millie and I all walked towards the big double doors to enter the school as George looked over to see students crowding around the edge of the wall.
"What is going on over there?" George says rushing us all over to have a look.
There was a gigantic, baby blue, horse-drawn carriage, the size of a large house, soaring towards them, pulled through the air by a dozen winged horses, and each the size of an elephant. It was being guided by Hagrid on the ground but it was simply out of control. Then slowly, a large ship rose out of the water. It had a dark and skeletal look about it. Finally, with a great sloshing noise, the ship emerged entirely, bobbing on the turbulent water and began to glide towards the bank. The students were all amazed by what they just encountered outside of Hogwarts.
"Well, there's something you don't see everyday!" Fred joked and caused a few other students to laugh along.
"I wonder what's going on?" I say to Millie and she just returns a shrug before we all made our way to the great hall.
We all sat down in by the dinner table. I sat in between Fred and George and Millie squeezed between Harry and Ron opposite us. The hall kept getting louder and louder as more students flooded in to sit by their friends at their house tables. We all went silent as we heard Professor McGonagall tap her glass with a knife, before Dumbledore's voice beamed through the room.
"Well, now we're all settled in and sorted, I'd like to make an announcement! This castle will not only be your home this year, but home to some very special guests as well. You see, Hogwarts has been chosen to host a legendary event. The Triwizard Tournament!" he shouts out as the room turns into mumbles and whispers.
"For those of you who do not know, the Triwizard Tournament brings together three schools for a series of magical contests. From each school, a single student is selected to compete. Now let me be clear, if chosen, you stand alone. And trust me when I say, these contests are not for the faint hearted." he continues.
I look over at Millie who's shaking her head no and I agree with her. It's too dangerous.
"But more of that later. For now, please join me in welcoming the lovely ladies of the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and their headmistress, Madame Maxime!" He says as the great hall doors flew open, revealing a group of beautiful girls in these wonderful blue uniforms. Followed by a very tall woman.
The girls fluttered down the center of the hall in some sort of routine. I looked up at George and he clearly wasn't interested as he was trying to fold a napkin into a baby dragon for some reason. Fred on the other hand, was watching them glide down to the front. Millie saw him watch them like that and just simply looked at me and rolled her eyes. I nudged Fred in the ribs as he winced and frowned down at me.
Dumbledore spoke up again.
"And now our friends from the north! Please greet the proud sons of Durmstrang, and their headmaster, Igor Karkaroff!"
A group of large, buff men stormed through the door, some holding staffs, thudding them on the stone floor and some empty handed. Ron's jaw dropped to the floor as a familiar bloke came storming behind them.
"Blimey, it's him!" Ron cried out.
Millie turned her head to face Ron. "Who is it Ronald?" she asked genuinely confused.
"Who is it?!" he repeated Millie's words "It's Viktor Krum!" he replies, clearly in awe. Millie scoffed and turned her attention back to the front.
"I'd like to say a few words" Dumbledore began "Eternal glory! That is what awaits the student who wins the Triwizard Tournament. But to do this, that student must survive three tasks" the headmaster announces "Three extremely dangerous tasks.."
The boys I was in between spoke up. "Wicked" they both said in unison. I hit them both on the shoulder.
"No, not wicked. There's no way you're doing this" I whisper.
"For this reason, the Ministry has seen fit to impose a new rule. To explain all of this, we have the head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation, Mr Bartemius Crouch..."
As soon as Dumbledore finishes his sentence, a giant bolt of lighting struck through the room and the shound of thunder crashing making us jump out of our skin. George grabbed my hand underneath the table as if he was going to protect me which made me smile a bit. All of a sudden it all stops and everyone looks over to a man stood in the doorway.
"Bloody hell. It's Mad-Eye Moody..." Ron gasps.
"Alastor Moody? The Auror?" Hermione questions.
Dean turns around with a confused look "Auror?" he says to Hermione.
"Dark-wizard catcher. Half the cells in Azkaban are filled thanks to him" Ron explains "He's supposed to be mad as a hatter though these days" Mad-Eye lifts a flask to his mouth and takes a sip before shivering and muttering to himself.
"What's that he's drinking, do you suppose?" Seamus asks us.
"I don't know, but I don't think it's pumpkin juice..." Angelina suggests and I nod in agreement. Barty Crouch walks to the front of the platform and speaks up.
"After due consideration, the Ministry has concluded that for their own safety, no student under the age of 17 shall be allowed to put forth their name for the Triwizard Tournament and that decision is final..." the man stutters nervously as the entire room errupts with noise and complaining. Fred and George both stood up and yelled at the top of their lungs.
"THAT'S RUBBISH! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING!" George screams followed by Fred supporting him with a "BOO!"
"SILENCE!" the headmaster shouted out. A Dumbledore screams out I grab the back of the twins robes and yanked them back down to their seats.
"Idiots..." I mutter to myself and look over to Angelina as we both let out a small laugh.
"They're not too happy about that then..." Angelina whispers to me as we both try not to burst out laughing. Dumbledore reveals a beautiful goblet with blue flames coming out of the top at the front of the room,
"The Goblet of Fire!" he announces "Anyone wishing to submit themselves to the tournament need only write their name upon a piece of parchment, and throw it in the flame before this hour on Thursday night. Do not do so lightly. If chosen, there's no turning back. As from this moment, the Triwizard Tournament has begun."
George looks down at me and gives me an odd smirk.
"Don't even think about it Weasley..." I say shaking my head at him, making Hermione giggle a bit.
