"so were you paying attention? cause i absolutely was not." darlos said so nonchalantly. it almost sent a chill down bri's spine.
"are you really gonna act like we're cool?"
"hey now, i'm just here to work on the project, that's it."
"you've never cared about school in your life so that's a fucking lie."
"woah it's 8 in the morning, no need to be so mad."
"yeah well when you touch my body without my permission don't you think that's a valid reason to be mad?" she felt so badass saying that.
"what the fuck? you're completely changing the story. you acting like we had sex or something. all i did was rest my hand on yo thigh nothing more."
"well it made me uncomfortable and that's all the matters."
"you didn't say anything when i did it so i thought it was cool?"
"DARLOS I WAS SO UNCOMFORTABLE I WASN'T ABLE TO GET WORDS OUT. I TRIED HINTING AND YOU JUST DIDN'T GET IT." she started yelling.
the teacher came into the hall. bri's eyes filled with tears.
"what in the WORLD is going on out here?"
"i'm sorry. can i please go to the nurses office, i'm not feeling well.""yes of course, here's a pass." the teacher handed her a pass and bri walked away. "was everything okay out here darlos?"
"yeah, she kinda crazy though."
"that's not very nice to say about your classmates."
"my bad, she just wild sometimes."
"hm." the teacher went back inside.
bri wasn't sure where she was going, she definitely wasn't going to the nurses though. she could barely see anything as tears filled her eyes. she needed to head towards the bathroom to get some tissues out.
as she walked into the bathroom, she sees monica.
"woah, you okay?"
"monica i know you don't give a fuck so don't even ask." she sniffed.
"no seriously what's up?"
"when i tried telling you before, you told me i was overreacting, and for somebody who claims to be so 'woke' you really made me feel invalidated."
"oh my god, i'm so sorry. can you tell me what i could have said differently to comfort you?"
bri laughed. she's just shocked at who monica has become. she met monica in 3rd grade, and they were bestfriends. but when high school started, monica changed. she never wanted to listen to bri, and she stopped caring about her. and now she just paints and posts a bunch of petitions to sign. crazy how people change. bri took a turn out of the bathroom and slammed right into someone.
"mm" she rubbed her head. "i'm so sorry." when she looked up, she realized it was dj. "oh my god, thank god it's you." she hugged him and started tearing up again.
"sorry baby, i gotta watch where i'm going." he hugged her. "hey hey, what's wrong?"
"nothing, i'm fine." she obviously wasn't, but she didn't want to say anything with monica so close by.
"no you're not," he kinda of laughed. "come on let's go." he grabbed her hand and started walking to the front of the school.
"wait, where are we going?" monica watched as dj and bri left the school.
"out of here." dj and bri got to dj's car. they stood face to face and he wiped away her dripped mascara and gave her a long hug. "alright let's go." they got into his car and headed to the town coffee shop.
"baby what happened?"
she sniffled. as angry as she was at darlos, she almost didn't want to tell dj because dj would do whatever it took to get rid of darlos, which kind of scared bri. "just something with darlos..."
"did he put his hands on you again because i swear to god-"
"no no it's okay. we just got paired together for a project and he was acting like we were bestfriends again."
"i thought you asked not to be with him?"
"i did. but she didn't listen."
"man i fucking hate that kid, ever since i knew you guys were friends i just had such a bad feeling about him." dj pulled up to the drive thru and ordered them coffee and some crossaints. they pulled into the back of the parking lot to eat.
"dj are we gonna get in trouble for leaving school?"
"maybe, but whatever. we needed it." they laughed.
