"dj DIDN'T start the fight!" bri tried to tell the counselor in her office.
"bri i understand you're frustration but please, settle down. i'm watching the security footage right now and clearly dj punched medco first."
"no, ms. benson. you don't understand! medco was saying stuff....about me. and about how i get used for my body...." she sighed. "all dj was trying to do was protect me." she started to tear up.
"oh, sweetheart. i'm sorry, you should never be told something like that. i will be having a talk to with medco about this. you can take a few minutes to calm down and then you can return to class." ms. benson left the room.
BRI'S POV:
oh god this is my fault. if i weren't there maybe the fight wouldn't have even started. i really hope my tears were convincing enough. dj's mom will beat his a*s if he gets suspended or even expelled. god i hope that doesn't happen. i better get to class.-later-
"you do understand how serious this is, right?" ms. benson asked dj, but he didn't responded. "RIGHT?" she raised her voice.
"i- i- i'm sorry. yes ma'am." dj stuttered.
"you already have two detentions. this is terrible for your record. if you want a football scholarship you better get your head in the game. i'm rooting for you daniel james."
dj's eyes widened. nobody uses his full name. not even his mother.
"i've heard bri's side of the story, since she witnessed it all. and i went through the security footage. you probably already have heard that the kid who swings first is the one who gets in trouble, but in your case that's not true. this is only going to happen once dj, and after this, you're on your own. i'm letting you go with a warning. i do believe that you can clean yourself up and stay out of trouble. DON'T let me regret this." she got up and walked out of her office.
dj was at a loss for words. only a warning? wow. he didn't think he deserved this. he wanted to thank ms. benson, but she had already walked out of the room.
