The road was dark and practically abandoned, cars drove above them on the highway, but this shortcut didn't involve that road. The lone 2 lane was lit only by the headlights of the vehicles. Despite the two vehicles the occupants were not divided equally, the majority of the group was in the small sports car rather than the large truck.

Paige had asked Carly and Sam to take on Nick and Dalton as Paige wanted some time with Blake, Sam was unsure why and was apprehensive, but Carly had been able to curb it.

With the two women up front that left for 3 very cramped men in the back, Nick had managed to get the seat behind Sam, while Wade was behind Carly and Dalton had the unlucky spot in the middle where no matter how he sat he was touching shoulders with someone.

While Sam had offered to sit in the back and let Wade sit up front, he was adamant that Sam drive her own car, and Sam wasn't going to let Carly sit in the back. This left Nick and Wade both angling their bodies allowing their feet to invade Daltons space. Though Wade had more space as Carly was slightly shorter than Sam.

Sam turned the radio up to avoid the tension, it was killing her. It wouldn't have been bad without Nick, she could handle Dalton, but she had the feeling Nick hated her, not to mention the recent tension she was feeling with Wade.

"record crowds are expected for the college football's biggest game of the year..." the radio trailed off as Sam spoke over the radio.

"it's gonna be packed tomorrow" she said as she glanced at Carly for a second, who gave a small smile. She had been excited about the game but would rather spend time with Sam, perhaps with a packed house people wouldn't say anything about the two being close.

"dude speaking of packed my legs are killing me back here man" Dalton complained as he tried to move a little.

"don't worry man. It's not Sam's fault her little hot wheels car only fits two" Nick tiredly said from his corner. Carly looked back at Nick with a small glare, she had liked Sam's car it has made an appearance in nearly every date they had and a few steamy moments.

"more like a shot wheels car isn't it?" Dalton snorted, Sam didn't respond so Dalton turned his attention to Wade who was sitting on the opposite side of the car away from Nick, his face contorted with frustration.

"Wade what did you do, go to the barbershop and ask for a he man hair cut or what" Dalton began cracking up at his own joke. Sam kept her eyes on the road clenching her jaw slightly as Carly got more annoyed. Wade knocked Daltons hand off of his head choosing to remain silent.

"shut up Dalton" Nick finally said as Dalton began tapping his chest only to receive a punch from Nick

"ow... okay" up front Sam had a hold of Carly's hand, she brought it up to her lips and gave it a gentle kiss, soothing her girlfriend, who smiled at the action. It never ceased to surprise her the tender care that Sam exhibited.

Lights began flashing, alerting the group to the detour the were forced to take,

"what the hell's this?" Wade asked as he saw the blinking lights

"oh, man" Dalton whined

"this suck"

"so much for his nice little shortcut" Sam added to the conversation as she turned to follow the truck. Once they turned Sam decided she was going to figure out what was going on, Blake had informed them of the shortcut but had failed to mention detours.

"I hope he's not gonna get us lost" she said as she pulled up right next to the truck, keeping an eye on the road in front of her as well as the car beside her.
