"Get in the backseat."

I lounge on my sofa at home, thinking about how best to waste the day away. Now that I have a day off, it seems like the perfect time to go back to things I've left unattended, such as watching some shows or finally getting around to cleaning out my closet.
My phone vibrates.
I roll over on the sofa to face my phone, which had been sitting behind my back. My eyes widen at the screen, and I swiftly pick it up to view it closer. With no further hesitation, I answer the call.
"Koutarou?"
"(Y/N)! Hey." He says, and his voice is crystal clear on the other line. He must be at home himself.
"H-hey. Um, how are you?" I say tentatively. This is the first time we've spoken since that evening, and though that spans a week, it feels like months since he's talked to me.
"I'm good, I'm good... I wanted to ask you something," Koutarou says, "And don't worry, this isn't another confession!"
My mouth rests ajar in silence as I process his last sentence. With a strained smile on my face, I put a hand to my forehead.
"... Too soon, huh?" He adds as the silence prolongs.
"Maybe," I say, but I laugh. Koutarou begins to do the same, and hearing that familiar sound makes my heart soar as much as a pit starts to form in my stomach.
"Well, I was just wondering if you'd like to help me set up for a party that I'm having at my place tonight." He says, and I raise my eyebrows.
"Oh, a party?" I respond, and he makes a sound of affirmation.
"Of course, you and Akaashi are my special guests of honour! I called him earlier asking if he wanted to help and he said he couldn't because of school stuff. You're not busy too, are you?" He says, and almost immediately, I feel no attachment to the original plans I had for today.
"Not busy at all! Helping set up sounds fun." I nod, though it's clear that he can't see me.
Maybe this will be the perfect time to tell him. To finally confess my true feelings, as Akaashi said to do. I wonder if he really did have school stuff to attend to or if he figured this would happen.
