I approach the double doors to the restaurant to see the owner through the other side. He appears stressed, as usual, as he stares intensely at a clipboard.

A bell triggers once I pull open the doors, and the man looks surprised to see me.

"(Y/N)? Oh, damn it," He presses a hand to his forehand roughly, scrunching up his face.

I give him a similar look due to my confusion, and he waves a hand in front of his face as he tries to collect the words.

"I forgot to tell you that I cut your shift today. You get the day off." He explains, and swiftly enough, he returns to his clipboard and walks away before I can get in a word.

"Uh—" I choke out, and my gaze drags to the hostess on shift. She, apparently, was watching the entire interaction and only gives me a shrug as she looks on at me sympathetically.

"What a waste of time," I huff as I force open the doors to leave. Even though I now have a free day, it doesn't take away the stress of this morning: waking up late, putting on anything that fit the work dress-code, even having to search through dirty laundry; then, having to rush to the bus stop before the bus left me in the dust... all to be told that my shift was cut.

Though, in a matter of minutes, my feelings change— I suppose I do have a free day.

I look at the bag slung over my shoulder, which I was able to scrounge up this morning in a matter of minutes; I figure I can at least carry out my plan with it earlier than expected, since I won't have work to account for. Perhaps I'll finally have time tonight to catch up on that show I've been meaning to watch.

But, for now... I should head to the café.

Across from the restaurant, I see my destination; I would only need to cross the intersection in the near distance to get there. The café is a new establishment and has become especially popular lately among locals, with its botanical-themed interior and visually-appealing drinks. Another perk, I suppose, of having my shift cut: the potential of avoiding their busy hours.
