"Gya! Are you listening?" Suki asked the younger girl.
"Huh?" Gya looked around, snapping out of her daze. The other Kyoshi warriors had dropped their stances to look at her.
"What are you looking at?!" She snapped at them, and they quickly turned away. They were all practicing group fighting again.
"Sorry," Suki apologized, like she always did after calling Gya out. "You just looked a little distracted. Alright, let's keep practicing girls!"
Gya rolled her eyes but tried to pay attention this time. It didn't really work. She should be sparring with someone, or in the earth kingdom's elite forces destroying the idiotic fire nation, not stuck in some group dance fight with her so called 'sisters'.
Both Gya's parents were fighting in the war. They had lived on Kyoshi island, until they decided they wanted to do more with their lives, and help fight in the war. Only, they couldn't bring a baby into a war, so they a with an old woman on Kyoshi island. The old lady had passed away years ago. Gya was 15 now. She had been training her whole life to be a Kyoshi warrior, but they had never really done anything interesting.
"Gya?" Suki said again. "Practice is over. You can go now." Gya looked around the room. She and Suki were the only people there, everyone else had already left.
"Oh, uh, yeah. Bye." Gya grabbed her bag and started out the door, but Suki stopped her. "Or I was thinking you might want to spar. Since group fighting wasn't really appealing to you."
Suki said it calmly, like she wasn't trying to blame the slightly younger girl, just state the facts. Gya was so surprised, she almost dropped her bag.
"I mean, um, sure." She was really making a fool out of herself, with all the stuttering she was doing that day.
Suki smiled at her. "Good. Weapons or not?"
"Weapons." Gya knew exactly what she wanted to do.
Suki nodded. Gya knew that using weapons would put Suki at an advantage, but it was one she needed to. Both of them were skilled in hand-to-hand combat and fighting with katanas and war fans. Neither of them were benders, so they were almost evenly matched. Almost.
Today we're going to see who is really better, Gya thought to herself, getting into a fighting stance.
"Pin the other person down for seven seconds?" Suki asked her, and Gya nodded. "Let's do this."
The girls circled each other, both waiting for the other to make the first move. Gya became impatient. She lunged at Suki; fans outstretched. Suki quickly pushed Gya's arm away shielding the blow.
Suki did that move a lot, and Gya was ready. That was just the distraction. Gya swiped her foot under Suki's and pulled her sword out of its sheath all in one motion. Suki lost her balance and fell to the ground. Gya held her sword in front of Suki's neck, not enough to threaten her, but just enough so that the older girl couldn't get up.
Gya opened a fan just to be safe and waited for the seven seconds to be up. Only, Suki wasn't going down that easily. She rolled out from under the sword and jumped up. Out of surprise, Gya was slow to react. Suki kicked Gya's stomach, which didn't hurt much because of her armor, but made her real back.
Then she pounced. Suki hit Gya with the end of her fan and making her fall to the ground. Suki then jumped on top of Gya, her knee on top of Gya's stomach, keeping her down. Gya made several attempts to escape, but Suki kept her down. After the seven seconds were up, Suki climbed off, and put her hand down to help Gya up. Gya took it with more force than necessary.
"Your good, but it's not about strength. Keep working on it, and I'll see you tomorrow at practice." Suki said as she grabed her bag and then headed out the door.
Gya kicked the ground. She had lost. She had lost to her loser of a leader. They weren't friends anymore. Gya had given up on friends a long time ago. "Uh, whatever," Gya said out loud, picking up her stuff. She had more important things to worry about than her used-to-be-friend.
*****
Gya sat on the beach outside the village. The elephant koi were jumping out of the water, putting on a show. She watched them, while rubbing off her makeup from practice.
Gya picked up a handful of sand and let it run though her fingers. She thought about what had happened that day. She wasn't usually that distracted during practice. Annoyed yes, but not distracted. She was thinking about her family again. Gya snorted at the thought. She didn't miss them. She just wanted to be with them fighting the fire nation! Why hadn't they come back yet? Maybe they were dead. The thought had crossed Gya's mind hundreds of times before, but she didn't stop thinking it.
Maybe, maybe she just wanted someone to love her. Possibly even a friend. Gya stood up. She had never been a soft, reflects on life, talks about feelings kind of person. It was time to go home.
Gya might not have had a family, or friends, but she had a home. And that was good enough for now.
A/N: Ok, so we got a fight scene, and we learned a little about Gya's life. What did you guys think?
