"Must you?" Lace was irritated, it was clear in how she walked as I lead her from the playroom and towards our bedroom.
"Yes! I said I have a surprise for you. You can't tell me you don't like surprises." I nuzzled underneath her ear affectionately, nipping at her skin, she swatted at me half heartedly.
"I don't like surprises, Azrael." She gave me a rather baleful look that had me returning it with a grin. "I would like to go back." She started to slow down and I wrapped an arm around her waist.
"I don't think so, Lace The kids are fine! Dad's got them." I said it quickly, ushering her towards our bedroom, ignoring the low rumbles she let out. I knew she didn't want to leave Azariah, he was only a few months old and she was protective of him, as she was with them all but she had only just really been allowing my family to see him for extended periods of time. Some thing I figured she would be doing with all the babies we would have.
"If you keep dragging me around like a misbegotten mutt, my wolf will take offense." She snapped her teeth together as if to remind me as the rumbling grew to low growls and wrapped my arms around her and lifted her off her feet, nuzzling her cheek and then throat.
"She loves me." I grinned up at her and she gave me such a dark look that I laughed. "No one is around. Give me some PDA." I puckered my lips, making kissy noises at her and she looked she was seriously thinking of removing any and all appendages from my body as horrible as she possible could before her eyes softened and her mouth quirked up slightly.
"One kiss and then you put me down." She lifted a single finger and I nodded quickly in agreement. I was surprised she had actually agreed at all and I had planned on setting her down but I wasn't going to turn the offer down. She gave me a quick peck that had me giving a frustrated groan at the swiftness of it. "Down." She gestured with her finger and I reluctantly set her back on her feet, my bottom lip out in an exaggerated pout. She needlessly straightened her button up before looking at me. "If you are going to act like one of the kids, you are going to get treated like one." She blinked at me and I looked at the ceiling and groaned even louder at how well she had played me but I couldn't stop the grin from coming out.
"Well played. You played me like a fiddle." I gave her a mocking bow and she crossed her arms over her chest and gave me a look.
"No. It was more along the lines of playing you like a...what are those irritating mundane toys I tossed out after a single five minutes that Eli had one? Oh yes. A cheap, plastic kazoo." At the insult my mouth dropped open and I sputtered as she spun on her heel and practically floated down the hall.
"You can't just insult me so perfectly like that and then walk away!" That had been...that had been top tier. I wasn't going to lie and I hoped to the moon Mason never found out about it. I wouldn't hear the end of it.
"I just did." She called it out over her shoulder and even thought it was an insult, It had me stifling chuckles as I strode down the hall, trying to catch up with her. She stopped in front of our bedroom door and then gestured in a rather agitated fashion. "Well? Let's get this over with." I didn't even care about the slightly snappy tone she took because I was the only one who really got to see her like this, that got to wiggle their way underneath her skin and irritate her and live to see the light of a new day.
I bent down and gave her a chaste kiss that she minutely rolled her eyes at before so opened the door with a flourish and gesture to the bed. "Tada!" The hide from the bear she had killed was resting across the large framed bed. It had taken the tanners over a year to process it so it was soft like butter and I didn't know if a better place to put it than in our den.
She slowly walked inside her head tilted and her arms crossed over her chest. She was silent and the silence seemed to stretch on forever before she slowly turned to look at me. "It makes the bed seem..." She trailed off, her eyes going half lidded as she looked at me. "A bit bear." With that she turned on her heels and walked from the room. It took me a few seconds to realize what she said and then my mouth dropped open.
"You did not just make a pun at me!" I sputtered as I said it, half in disbelief and half laughing because what the hell? "Lace!" I hurried to catch up to her, the disbelief fading into pure laughter as I caught her from behind and wrapped her in a tight hug, laughter shaking my body. A fucking pun. "I wouldn't have thought it was possible, my female has a sense of humor." It was atrocious and it was pun based but it was there. She scoffed at me slightly but I could tell it was real because try as she might, she was shaking with giggles that came out not in noise but in sharp exhales through her nose as she fought a grin that wanted to make its way across her face.
