When the Matthews got back from Church everything was a reck. The couch was on it's side, the stario was as loud as it could go, and there was food everywhere.
"Party!!!!! What do you mean party? I told you no phones, no TV, and no friends. Did you listen to any of what I said?" Emily's mom had started calm but had worked her way up to a shout. "Did you atleast read ten chapters in your Bible?" Emily's dad asked, much calmer then her mother. "Well you see I started but then I realized my friends from school were right. It isn't worth reading." Emily said in a sassy voice. "YOU WILL NOT DISRESPECT THE BIBLE LIKE THAT YOUNG LADY!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Emily's father was shouting, and when her father shouted that meant you had no chanc e of getting out of this alive. "Phone, keys, and wallet now." her father said sternly. " Since you didn't read the ten chapters your mother told you to read by the time we got back you will stay in your room till you have read twenty chapters. That includes dinner." "But..." Emily tried to convince them to let her off the hook but that just bumped her reading to thirty chapters.
................................
Emily finished reading around 8:30p.m. and it onl took her that long because she had fallen asleep about every other chapter. She didn't even remember half of what she had read.
"You can make yourself a sandwhich, we don't have anything else because of your little party earlier." her mother said from the couch where she was reading her Bible. Emily had seen her mom pick up her Bible to read when she had gone up at 1:00. Had her mother been reading this entire time?
"Thanks." Emily mumbled. She still didn't think her punishment was fair. So what she through a little party. Okay so maybe fifty people ended up coming. That's not that big of a group.
That night Emily's parents talked to her again about how throwing a party behind their backs was wrong and told her they had come to the desciscion to ground her for a total of three months. Three months!!!! This was going to be the boringest three months of her life.
.......................................
"why didn't you come to Church on Sunday." Jonah and Catherine had asked her. The Conversation with Catherine was shorter then the one with Jonah. With Catherine Emily answered "Why does it matter?" and then Catherine backed off knowing something was wrong but didn't want to push it. With Jonah after he asked Emily answered the same way, but Jonah pushed it.
"What do you mean why does it matter? It's Church.I know you didn't like the lesson but that doesn't mean stop going to Church and throw a party! Yes I know about the party I called your house when I got home and Andy told me everything." Jonah was dissapointed in Emily and she could tell. It hurt but her reply made it hurt even more. " Great now everyone is against me! What a friend you are!" His reply is what broke Emily. "Maybe we shouldn't be friends!" Jonah didn't mean it but there was no taking the words back, even when he tried. "Em I didn't mean that I was angry and..." "No Jonah yor right. Why have a friend who will never believe in the same god as you." "Emily you don't mean that." Jonah said quietly."No Jonah, I do." Then Emily walked off, not another word was said.
