It's their second date, because of course Soyeon's late night escapes to that fancy and exaggerated room at the Yeh's hotel are not considered as official dates by Yuqi — and if Yuqi won't acknowledge them, neither will her midnight company.
The sun burns their skins out more than in the past summer days and it's like the universe is trying to mess Soyeon's plans up by bringing such an intense heat when their plans for the don't include any kind of fresh water if not the one to drink.
(Technically, it's the producer's plans and she made them up in the last minute because the date completely got lost in her busy head, but lucky her for having Minnie and her great memory there to remind her of it and to help her search for possible activities that can be read as romantic.)
Thank God they didn't stay in Hallim or they would have melted by now — like Nicha, who is at Byeonghwa's backyard with a cold drink in her hand and a large hat in her head, sitting in a colored beach chair with sun glasses protecting her eyes, truly sweating like crazy even in that two pieces clothe of hers.
Instead, they're inside Soyeon's truck, air conditioner on, most of their skins showing thanks to the short pieces of clothes, and sunscreen trying not to get them all red like a shrimp. The radio plays Bad Romance, by Lady Gaga, and Yuqi mumbles the lyrics while keeping her head too close from the air outlet so the cold breeze can light up her hot face. By her side, Jeon Soyeon is not only driving, but is also trying really hard to listen to the girl's deep voice as a personal reward for finding something so cool for them to do at such a boring place, even though she has more to thank to her Instagram's adverts than to herself for it.
Yuqi's singing continues and the silver hair Korean is almost asking her to sing a little bit louder, too shy to say that she, an international singer, is interested at her voice, but it doesn't happen because the welcome sign of Jungsan village appears on the road and causes her to smile, touching Yuqi's hair just after fixing her own hair.
"We're here," she says.
The History teacher takes a deep breath, thinks about her bed, puts her head up and only then opens her eyes; the ending of a deserted road shows itself outside the windows and, far beyond, the beginning of a small town with, she soon discovers by googling the village's name, little population and more old buildings than new ones (she doesn't need Google to notice that, though).
"You took me from a ghost town to a fucking nowhere!" Her cheeks and forehead go red for the high heat, her lack of patience and the horrible feeling of being locked up inside a car for one whole hour over... That!
Soyeon rolls her eyes, "You judge too much and too fast, Yuqi-ah."
"This isn't about a book, Soyeon," she fights back. "Can't we just go back home and buy ice cream?"
"You haven't even seen it yet!"
"See what?! There's nothing here to see, Soyeon! Look at the streets! Are you even seeing any cars passing-"
She stops herself from complaining more at the exact second they cross the street and her vision changes completely. It is a crowded line of parked cars and colors and movement that extends in front of her, right at the very end of that quiet village, unlike the empty corners they have seen so far — so empty that if there were three people walking on the sidewalk, it was already too much.
When Soyeon finally finds a place to park, Yuqi's smile is showing, but her excitement is being well kept inside her not to make her girl's ego any bigger. After closing the metal door behind her, she noticed that there is much more to see than that white, made-up wall lets show, and, oh, she knows what that is. Actually, there's some of those back in China and she absolutely loves it. Of course, it has different snacks, different rides and different purposes in her home country, but she loves it anyway!
