Chapter Ten

"You get Cancer Perks?" I asked excitedly.

"Yea, I've gotten a few over my life." He responded.

"Like what?"

"Well, I got to go to Disney World once a year until I was fourteen, then I got the oxygen tank and couldn't ride anything."

"Wow, that's cool...besides the oxygen tank part. Hey, when's your surgery?"

"I'm honestly not sure, I would think in a few minutes though."

About five minutes later, a different doctor walked in with a couple things.

"Ready for your surgery, Matt?" She asked.

"No, not really." He replied instantly.

"Well get ready, I'll be back in a minute." She said walking out.

"Alright, I'm officially scared." Matt ended up saying.

"Why? You were fine just a minute ago!" I said back.

"Yea, because a minute ago their wasn't a doctor in here telling me to get ready for my surgery!"

"Okay, calm down. Your going to be fine. You've had surgery before, you know what it's like,"

"I know, and I hated it. Do you even know how much pain I was in?"

"No, I don't, but listen, it's going to be okay."

"But what if I don't make it?"

"Don't worry," I grabbed his hand, "your going to make it."

"But what if..." The doctor walked back in and went over to Matt.

"Okay, are you ready now?" She asked sticking a needle in his arm.

He took a deep breath and lied down.

"Yea, I think I'm ready." He said.

The doctor started pushing him, but before he could leave, I stopped him.

"Wait!" I said standing up and walking to where the stretcher was.

"Matt, don't be scared, think happy thoughts, and keep breathing."

"Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind when I'm losing consciousness." He said.

I laughed while he got wheeled away.

"Have fun!" I yelled to him.

"Oh I will!" He yelled back sarcastically.
