After I put my materials down on the little dark wooden dresser in what would be our baby’s room and the guys were downstairs talking business I went back and forth walking in circles around the room. There was a small carpet in the centre and I pictured exactly where we would be able to put the crib, I just didn’t like the beige tones, I hated the lack of colour but in my head nothing was coming up. My stupid creativity was taking long vacations and I hated it. Once I decided to stop struggling with my thoughts I walked outside and closed the door and walked downstairs with Tom’s dog's company.
That dog was all about following me around nowadays, it made me chuckle how its eyes kept glued to me.
“…everything’s busy until then...” Bill was talking to Tom; they both sat in front of their laptops.
I threw myself on the couch across from them. And the big dog jumped on the seat next to mine, Rize and Bora were probably sleeping somewhere near the kitchen.
“No, don’t do that!” I pushed the dog away softly, it had put its paw and head on my lap, I didn’t exactly like it but ended up leaving it alone. I fished the phone from my pocket and got myself distracted.
“…no, don’t worry! We’ll be here in time!” Bill waved his brother off and leaned down in front of me, leaving a peck on my cheek. “See you around.”
“Bye. No dinner tonight?” I yelled after him.
“Nah, I’m sleeping.” He replied and Tom walked behind him to close the door behind him.
So the house was finally all of our own, and we had this awful silence we couldn’t get over.
Tom didn’t walk back into the living room until a few minutes later. I was wondering if we’d get to talk soon, I just hoped we were not going to fight again, it felt like such an odd situation and our families acted like nothing bad happened, maybe we were making a big storm in a glass of water, I didn’t know, I still felt confused about what to do about Tom’s cheating.
When Tom walked in again, he called the dog and waited for it to get down from the couch. It didn’t move, I chuckled as my eyes met the dog’s.
“Come on, down boy!” Tom wasn’t being too patient. He sighed and grabbed the dogs collar, making it get down softly as it had no other choice but to do so. Scotty sat next to me on the floor and Tom took seat on the couch. “You’re such a weird dog, what’s up with you boy?”
“He’s just as overprotective as its owner, I think.” I muttered.
“And that’s bad because…?” I shrugged and looked up at him. He didn’t show any worry, as usual, he didn’t show much of that emotion. “We had all this shit going on that I forgot to give you this.” He handed me a white box with a blue wrapping.
“How thoughtful.” I accepted the box, unable to know if I should just open it right there. He motioned for me to do so, and I did. “Alright, this is…a necklace with…”I smiled and chuckled a little. “…well that’s not possessive Tom…” I looked down at the little jewellery box in my hands, inside there was also a CD, but it looked like a home-made thing. I paid attention to Tom’s expression for a second; he had a self-indulging smile spread across his face. The necklace consisted of a very thin golden chain and a pendant in the shape of a capital T, of course and next to it a capital J. I didn’t have to think too much what it meant.
