I packed carefully with the help of Allison. Tom was out with the guys and I needed to leave for NY that same night. One of the most terrible things about leaving home, I had always thought, was leaving at night; you got to be on a plane when you should be in bed and when you finally landed you had to face the hotel room really soon, because you couldn't really go out in the middle of the night on your own.
Allison was there because I needed to pack accordingly, I was going to do castings for fashion shows and Miriam said I really needed to look like a model, hence the big fuss. I had talked about it with Tom, and he wasn't excited at all, but that was how things were going and ultimately he was on board with me. I'd given the puppies to their new owners, they opened their eyes about a week before and looked very lively, so after asking the vet I gave the puppies away, only keeping one of the slim little puppies I named Rize, after a city in Turkey, I had always had a particular liking on the pronunciations of both the letter r and the z in German, so I found this little one would have a name with both letters. Mom hated it; she said it when I called her a few days before. Allison had kept the black dog, naming it Cleo; Bill had the other small dog and named it Timon, finding it suitable for a dog that was smaller than Pumba and making them now officially brothers - from a different mother. The last dog left with one of Tom's friends, I thought he was naming him Rocco...
"Okay, do you have a black dress?" I nodded. "Did you pack the pink shoes?" They were sandals with an agonizingly large heel, and I had packed them. "The black stilettos?" I nodded again. "You have the yellow purse?" I let out an annoyed laugh and looked up at the ceiling, touching my cheeks with my hands.
"Yes, I have it!" I was pretty sure I had everything in my suitcase.
"Did you already pack the white blazer?"
"Yes, I did, and the ripped jeans too, can I close the suitcase now?" I walked to the bed, where the suitcase was wide open.
"You didn't pack sunglasses. Pack them now." She urged me. "You'll thank me later."
After packing the sunglasses I sat on the suitcase and watched as Allison struggled with the zipper, she finally got it and closed the big suitcase, when I rolled it to the entrance we went to get the dogs, Bora and Rize were going with me.
Allison was taking me to the airport because the guys had to be working in the studio, but it had been two fun weeks for me to have them around. We stopped by the studio and I said my see you laters to everyone, holding Tom in a hug for a little more than everyone else; this was the first time since we got married that we were going to be away from each other and it certainly felt a lot worse than it felt the last time. I kissed him once and ran a hand over his beard lightly before taking a step back.
"Wait a second, not so fast." Tom didn't let go.
It was awful, after being inside our own little world in Spain we came back home without Lily and got straight back to work, breaking the fantasy world of the newlyweds as soon as we landed in LA.
