Patton was a bit scared but asked anyways. He was also a bit mesmerized at how such a small rock caused that much blood, the red liquid now dripping down the large creatures neck and to their shoulder. The other two had disappeared into the deeper water, probably from the largest spooking them. Even Patton would admit, the loud sound has almost scared him half to death as well.
Patton scuffed the ground with his foot awkwardly, finding it harder and harder to keep eye contact with the mer. Their purple eyes were stern and were looking through the human with suspicion, as if trying to see if he was a predator or threat. And Patton isn't one to lie when he said it kind of hurt. People not trusting him made him feel sad and awkward, though he never said anything. He just felt a need to be the one person anyone could go to to talk about ANYTHING, no matter the circumstance. After all, he knew how much it hurt to not have someone to go to.
The mer huffed and turned its head away but didn't say anything, sitting on the sand with more relaxed posture now. Patton took a deep breath and took a few steps forward, carefully watching the mer. When they didn't move or go to flee Patton smiled before turning to his friends again. "Hey Janus, could you go grab the first aid kit?" He asked kindly, not paying attention to his friend groups shocked and pale faces. Janus nodded quickly, grabbing Remy's hand and running off back to where they had put down their towels and left their bags.
Patton turned back to the mer to see their head tilted curiously as they stared in the direction the couple had ran off in. "Something wrong?" Patton asked hesitantly as he sat down in the sand a few paces away from the mer. "Um, no. Just a small question. What's a first aid kit?"
Patton gently took the cloth off when the bleeding had stopped, around 15 minutes had gone by and the human and mer were making casual conversation. Patton had learned the mer's name was Virgil, which he found was an interesting but cute name. Patton stood up and walked back to his group of friends with the first aid kit in hand. "Thanks-" The mer was cut off by being tackle-hugged by the smaller green one. "Sorry Virgie! I didn't mean to actually hurt you." He apologized, nuzzling into the larger mer's shoulder. "Rem, chill. I'm fine." They chuckled, ruffling the others hair as they slipped out of the death-grip. The others, besides Patton, had gone back to their spot on the beach as they were still nervous and a bit scared of the mer's.
The smaller of the two mer's turned to Patton with a kind look that was much different than the smirk he did before he was tackled by the other similar-looking mer from before. "Thanks for helping cuddlfish here. I can sometimes forget my own strength." Patton giggled at the nickname as Virgil flushed. "I'm going to throw you back into the ocean." "Ooo~ that sounds like fun! Please do!~" "Leaving Roman sounds like fun?" "I didn't say that!-"
Around ten minutes later Patton was sitting down in the sand as he watched the two mer's tease each other and occasionally bat, hiss or snarl at each other. He took note of the playful behaviour, as they seemed to play and tackle each other a lot. Patton spotted red in the water and soon a third joined the group. This one, instead of joining the argument, decided to slither up and curl up a few feet away from Patton. "So your the one that helped Virgil?" It asked curiously, their ear fins folding down a bit hesitantly. "Yep! I'm surprised a small rock made that big wound though. You kiddo's must be really strong!" Patton complimented with a smile which made the creature beside him brighten up a lot. His ear fins were now unfolded and a bright, fanged smile was on his face. "You really think that? Well Virgil is a lot stronger than us but really?" The mer's question was replied with a nod accompanied by a giggle.
An hour later Patton had to go, which was upsetting to the twins. They had taken a liking to the human as he was really nice, bubbly and smelt of something sweet. Virgil was also a bit disappointed the curly haired and freckled teen had to go but they wouldn't admit it of course. Patton said goodbye to his new water friends and quickly ran off to the others to help pack everything back into the van.
