We all made it back to base before Newt started working on opening the cargo door. Once he was done, I eagerly opened it, walking through. Many innocent kids were chained up. Thomas and New followed behind me, searching for Minho, as well.

Thomas walked to Aris and Sonya before following me more.

"It's okay. You guys are safe." Thomas assured everyone. "Alright? Just hang on."

We finally made it to the end of the cargo, and no Minho was in sight. I slowly turned to Thomas and Newt.

"He's not here." I said sadly.

I leaned against a pillar as I watched the kids we just rescued walk more into our base. Vince stood in the front, preparing for his speech.

"Come on in, guys!" He called. "Alright, listen up. I know you've all been through hell. I wish I could say our troubles are over. But we're not through this yet. Wicked's still out there. They're not giving up. Cause you got something they want. They took you because you're immune to a plague that's wiping out the human race. And they think you're worth sacrificing to find a cure. Well, I don't. So in two days, when we get this tub of rust seaworthy," Vince gestured to the large ship behind him, "we're getting the hell outta here. We're gonna go to a place where Wicked will never find you. A place you can start over. A place you can call home."

I walked away, not listening to the rest of Vince's speech.

There was no way I was leaving without Minho. I wasn't gonna leave him behind. I wouldn't leave anybody behind.

Taking of my gear, I walked by Jorge and Brenda, meeting Brenda's eyes. I smiled softly at her before she was out of sight.

I sat in a room beside Newt. Thomas, Harriet, Frypan, and Brenda were there, as well as Aris and Sonya.

Sonya was tending to Aris' wounds, making him whimper slightly in pain a couple times.

"Here, drink this." Harriet handed them glasses of water.

Aris quickly took a sip. "Took you guys long enough to rescue us."

"It's good to see you, too, bud." Thomas patted his leg. "So what happened?"

"I fought back." Aris chuckles slightly. "Tried to, anyway."

"You're lucky you found us at all." Sonya spoke up. "They had us on the move a lot. It felt like something big was happening."

"Any idea where they were heading?" Newt questioned.

"All I know is they kept talking about a city." Aris informed.

We all glanced at each other, confusion shown upon our faces.

"I didn't think there were any cities left." Harriet guessed.

"That's because there aren't." Brenda spoke up. "Not still standing, anyway."

"Okay, wait. What about Minho? Why wasn't he on the train?" I asked the two.

Aris and Sonya shared a look before Aris responded. "I'm sorry, Y/n. He was."

In the evening, back in the Scorch. The train was still where it was when the teenagers left it. On the side, walked Janson and a man beside him.

"They got forty, maybe fifty kids." The man started. "We're still compiling an official count, but the pilot got a good look. He thinks it was them."
