Ox's POV

"Hey big man, you ready to get back in the fight?" TJ asked.

I closed my right fist several times. The surgery had gone well, and the nerve chip gave me back my full range of motion.

The new eye, on the other hand, took some getting used to. Wasn't the nicest thing to look at, though I was told I got the sleeker military model as opposed to the bulky civilian model. The metal matched my fur and shutter style of it mimicked facial expressions to a degree. What was cool, however, were the special features. Thermal and night vision, along with a jack to plug into cameras, and a zoom feature. I took it apart to check for a tracker but didn't find anything. Guess General Ironwood had bigger things on his plate than a one-eyed Mega Faunus.

"Yeah. I think I'm good to go."

"Good. Coco got off the phone with Dana. ETA is an hour. Windows tight so grab what you want and leave the rest. We'll take it to Shade with us."

I nodded and went over to my work bench, selected several of my new toys, and loaded them into the pockets of my cargo pants and vest. I strapped on my new gauntlets, which had some surprises in them, including a retractable elemental shield in the left one. Then I went for my weapons.

My knife went to its normal sheath on the back of my belt. Then I strapped on my two newest creations. One was a broadsword that I called Retaliation. It was made from three of Penny's blades and with a flick of a switch, it converted into a double barrel energy cannon. Only good for five shots before it ran pout of ammo, but it could kill a Goliath with a shot. I strapped it on my back.

The second was my new hammer, which I called Umbra. It was similar to my old one, with two significant changes. The first was that it was the same jet black as my fur, as opposed to the gunmetal grey of my older one. The second was the curved blade on one end that was half scythe, half axe. It went in a loop on my right hip.

"How do I look?" I asked TJ.

He gave me a quick once over. "Like you're ready for war."

"Good."

We left the house that TTNM, CFVY, and I had been staying at. Outside, the rest of our people were waiting for us, leaning against a big and battered truck.

"Only things we could find that would fit both you and Yatsu." Coco said.

"Still better than half the wrecks in Vacuo." TJ said, hoping into the back.

I followed with Yatsu, Velvet, Fox, Nora, and Talia. Coco slid into the passenger side with Merrick behind the wheel.

Driving in Vacuo must not be for the faint of heart because Merrick drove like there was a pack of Beowulfs on our tail. We got to the airfield in fifteen minutes and that was through a destroyed city.

I saw two airships on the runway. One was large with the emblem for Shade academy on the side. The other was a smaller, but faster looking one. As we disembarked, a man came out of the smaller one. He looked fifty, but in good shape, with a trimmed moustache and a small scar on the right side of his face, right on the hairline. He was wearing what I was assuming was a pilot's uniform, very official looking. But what was interesting was that he didn't bat an eye at my appearance as he held out his hand and we shook.

"I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you're Ox Cobalt?"

"Yes sir."

He smiled. "No need to call me sir. I'm Retired Major William Blossom. I believe you know my daughter Dana."

I smiled. "I do. She's saved my life a couple times."

He grinned. "Why am I not surprised. It'll take us a couple minutes to refuel if you need to say your goodbyes."

I thanked him and went back to the others.

I took Velvets hands in mine and when she looked up, I could see the tears starting to form in her eyes.

I reached over and gently wiped them away.

"It'll be okay baby. We'll see each other soon, and I'll bring Carli with me. I promise."

"I know my love." She smiled at me. "Don't take too long though."

"Please, it's a simple rescue mission. We find her, kick some ass, save her, then get the hell out of Atlas. Should only take a week, ten days at most."

It was a lie and we both knew it, but it helped ease the tension.

I leaned down and kissed her.

"I love you."

"I love you too. Keep in contact with your Papyrus."

She was referring to the little devices that our little group had invented. They were communication devices that were linked together in one network. They could only send text messages to other Papyrus's and required both a four-digit input code and vocal command to open and be used. They weren't as versatile as scrolls, but they were untraceable and offered better communication than scrolls nowadays.

With that we separated. I said goodbye to the others, grabbed my bag and walked over to the airship.

There were two others inside. A woman around the same age as the major and a younger man in his late twenties or early thirties, human ages were hard to guess. the woman was dressed in mechanic's coveralls and had her black and grey hair tied back. The man wore silver armor similar to Jaune's with an axe on his hip.

The major pointed to each of them. "This is my wife and mechanic Selene and my son Ryan." They both waved.

The major motioned for me to follow him and waved at what looked like a generator in an opened crate.

"Selene, if you would do the honors."

She walked over and, grinning, hit some hidden lever or switch on the generator, which swung open on a concealed hinge to reveal that it was hollow with a small bench inside.

"I made it myself. It'll be a tight fit, but this should get you into Atlas with no problems. There's a shadow design in it that will make it look like a normal hard-light generator and shielding to protect against life form or signal scanners, so you should be able to use your scroll with no problem, though no signal will get out. Your friends have already arranged transport. Unfortunately, we're going to have to load you up now, it'll be too hard to do in the air."

I shrugged off my backpack and sword and sat them next to door as I sat on the bench. After some positioning, I removed my hammer and sat it between my hooves, turned my sword to cannon mode, and sat it and my backpack on my lap. After giving Selene a thumbs up, she closed the generator, and I was left in darkness. I could hear the side of the crate being hammered back into place, followed by the sound of the engine starting up.

This was going to be a long flight.
