Georgina’s POV.

The Maths lesson seemed to drag even more today. Niall and Martina sat right behind Francesca and me so it was hard not to listen to their conversation. They were getting along great; Niall could charm anyone he wanted, including me. I was glad to hear the bell ring and finally escape to History, a lesson Niall wasn’t in.

‘Everything alright, Gina?’ Codie asked, as we walked upstairs.

‘Other than the fact that I now have no chance at all with him, yes.’ I sighed.

‘Just because Martina’s turned up doesn’t mean he’ll suddenly forget about everyone else.’ she said, but even she didn’t seem to believe it.

After History, we had a break which offered another chance to discuss the new girl. She had been taken in by Becka’s group; not a surprise to anyone. The lads sat near their group since Dani was friends with all of the boys. Niall practically sat with the girls anyway, but today he was right next to Martina. I forced myself to look away; I was in love with the school’s biggest player.

As Alisha and I were waiting for the bus at the end of the day, Zayn and Niall came up to us for a chat. I told myself the best thing to do was just ignore him, but I was too nice to actually go ahead with it.

‘You coming park at seven Georgina?’ he asked me, his guitar in his hand. I loved listening to him play it, you could hear him strumming down the music corridor at lunchtimes. I found myself nodding in reply, even though I knew I shouldn’t go; Martina had no doubt already been invited.

Zayn decided to walk Alisha home and I was left standing by myself with Niall. Perfect. The worst thing was the fact that he didn’t even seem to notice that anything was wrong; he just kept on talking about his day and to my horror: how great Martina was.

I almost jumped on the bus, I was so relieved when it came and even more relieved when we got to my stop. I waved goodbye to Niall, rushed home and threw myself on my bed as soon as I got in. After I told myself to stop being so depressive, I got changed and made some toast. I would go out with everyone else and prove a point. My parents wouldn’t be home until 8 so I just left a note on the table.

Before going down to the park, I knocked on Liam’s door. He lived only a few houses down from me and we often went to school together in the mornings. I guessed he would be back from his singing lesson by now.

‘Georgina.’ he smiled, opening the door.

‘Coming out?’ I asked, hopping back down his porch steps.

‘I was just about to go get you.’ he said, grabbing his keys.

It was a pleasant walk to the park as Liam never failed to entertain me. We seemed to be the first ones there so we went down to the stream which flowed through the length of the park. As we got closer to the little bridge which crossed it, I saw two shapes come into focus.

‘Is that…?’ Liam started, but I put my hand on his shoulder to silence him.

As I watched Niall kiss her I felt my heart breaking. There was a part of me which had still thought that maybe he wouldn’t be like everyone else. That maybe he would notice me. But as I saw his hands holding Martina’s waist, that last part of hope crumbled and I could feel my eyes getting wet.

I heard Liam call my name, but I just kept running.
