Chapter  4

「Perhaps it's okay to trust him」

I have been restless after the garden incident, but I couldn't imagine how Gertrud must have felt.

I have been interacting normally with her until the Duke threatened to kick her out of the house.

My eyes darted to the Duke, who was seated next to the driver of the diesel punk vehicle we're in. We are going to the Mochat fields to get supplies from our farms and deliver them to different branches of Umphrey cafés in Mochat and its nearby village, Crème Ville.

The Duke is still alive in this timeline, hence the beginning of the spider web I'm trying to untangle. More questions come into mind.

If the Duke hates Gertrud so much, why hasn't he disowned her before? Given that Sir Marlon knows about Sherbet's powers and shenanigans, how worse Gertrud's wrongdoings must be? He was not even frightened when I almost accidentally killed him!

"Believe me, she is not what she seems to be, Sherbet. She doesn't deserve to be treated nicely, so don't even try."

Sir Marlon's words made me doubt my knowledge of Gertrud's character.

I am at loss. I have no idea what my next step would be in my "Survive as the Villainess" path. Gertrud must hate me now that Sherbet is supposedly back.

As for the Duke... I joined this business-related activity to know more about him.

After several protests from me for the Duke to never ride a train, as I know he meets his end there, we're riding a diesel-powered car that runs surprisingly smooth. The mechanism with clogs and gears looks complicated. The interior, however, is the exact opposite of its exterior as it was made out of black leather that fits the preference of the Duke. It's a fitting complement.

I peered out the window and admired the scenery. Summer air blew refreshingly on my face. I'm glad that I wore a short dress paired with boots and got my hair done in a milkmaid braid.

At least this world is beautiful. If he made this story then he must be a supreme being here. I chuckled at the thought. If I told that to his face, I wonder what his reply would be?

This world may be beautiful, but it's far from perfect because you're not here.

The horizon reflected a sparkling effect from the fields as the sun rose.

"Are we on the fields yet?" I asked.

"We're already here. It's our fields," Sir Marlon replied.

I ignored the flex. We're going to transport all of those crops?
