Ok, I'm just gonna put it out there, dream can't turn into shattered without killing nightmare. The only way dream can turn into shattered is by eating nightmares soul which would kill nightmare. Even then it would probably just make dream really powerful but I don't think it would turn dream into shattered, it would probably make dream as powerful as shattered tho. If anything dream would probably turn nightmares soul into a golden apple and if he ate it, pure positivity would pour out of his eyes (like killer) and would just make him more powerful in general. He would also most likely be haunted or just followed by nightmares ghost.
Ya know, after writing this I realized that this is a good plot for a story. During a fight between the star sanses and bad sanses, dream is able to get a hold of nightmares soul and eats it. Of course killing nightmare, but getting more powerful (powerful enough to have pure positivity coming out of his eyes) and to have his brothers ghost haunting him(more like connected to him as in soul linked).
(Gosh, do you know how hard it is to realise stuff like this then come up with a good plot to match your finding😅)
