"Caitlin, are you there? Can you please answer? Hey answer!" I wake up hearing someone knock and call from the other side of the door. A little confused and really annoyed that someone has the nerves to wake me like this, I growl:
"Yes what? Who is there?"
"Oh thank god!" I hear the person cuss with a deep voice, somehow it sounds familiar, as if I already heard it once. Then it gets back to my mind, it's Emmanuel, the bald guy with brown eyes! What is he doing here?
"Emmanuel? Is that you? What are you doing here?" My voice is trembling a little, I saw this person one time since I lost my memory, how should I act around him?
"Please, unlock the door would you?" he repeats. I put on leggings and a pullover and open the door. I don't even have the time to give him a glance. He places one hand on each of my arms to pull me into a big hug, then he takes some distance to look me in my eyes. I don't know what to say, but staring into his eyes, I know that he was genuinely worried about me. It doesn't look made up at all, is this person someone I really am close to?
"What is wrong Emmanuel?" I say with a sudden unexpected soft voice.
"You didn't give any information about yourself, for two days, we were all worried, usually you talk at least twice a day on the phone with Barbara, but you haven't even done that the past days! What have you been doing?! Are you alright?"
"Yes I am alright. Wait, two days? That's impossible, yesterday evening I went sleeping, right after Barbara brought me home, you just woke me up right now."
"Might be that you did that, but she brought you home on Sunday night, it is Tuesday afternoon!" He places a hand on my forehead "Are you sick? Have you caught a cold? Having those headaches again?"
"No, it's alright" I gently push his hand away "I was probably just very exhausted from my long walk, I almost can't believe I slept for 2 days straight" I affirm laughing about it, Emmanuel seems relieved hearing me say that.
"Please, just don't scare us like this anymore, promise me?"
"Yes, don't worry!" I smile at him. I think that I may be able to trust this guy, but I need to find out about the trustworthiness of the others as well. Maybe I know just the right thing to find that out. I need to involve them in my problems, then I will finally get to see who really is on my side. Starting now! I look at Emmanuel with a big smile, his face tells me he is surprised, worried and curious at the same time? I can tell by the spark in his eyes.
"I need your help with something. I should have talked to you way sooner. Please, could you take a seat?" I make a hand movement to the bed. I sit down on my office chair, then I stare at the ceiling for a moment. When I look back at Emmanuel who sat down on the bed, I take a big inhalation, then I start telling him everything I experienced during the past days. I tell him what I discovered about my parents and how I think they may still be alive, as I am alive as well. I also explain about how I think the earthquake from 2014 wasn't caused by something natural. He looks at me trying to believe me but I understand it's a lot to take in at once.
"Listen, have you ever known a quarantine as big and long lasting as this one?" I add to my speculations.
"No, but it is because they are afraid that there might be an earthquake there again, at least, I think so" He holds his chin while thinking.
"Exactly, there you have it! You THINK! But do you know for sure? I tell you, something is going on there, and it has something to do with my parents." I exclaim, making big gestures with my hands. Emmanuel puts his hands together to hide his annoyance.
"Do you even hear yourself talking? I mean, take a second to think objectively about it. How many people have died in that earthquake?" He raises one eyebrow to look at me with a questioning look.
