The day started like any other for San. The house was bustling with movement as he made his way down the stairs.
Children were running around screaming and playing with fake swords.
Once in the kitchen he stumbled upon his mother and aunt arguing while one of his younger cousins sat there crying.
"Nam Kyu," his mother cried, "you need to be more consistent."
"No, he doesn't," his aunt yelled back.
"Eomma, you have to stop being so controlling," San said, wanting them to stop fighting.
"Oh, you just keep thinking that." his mother replied.
"How many times must I tell you that I am your mother, father and superior?" She continued
"You don't have to yell." San replied.
"So stop being so absent-minded and just listen to me when i talk you."She shouts at him
"You don't have to yell" San replies irritated,
"I yell to get your attention."
"You always yell." San said again, wanting his mother to stop fighting.
"You never think do you." his mother said, exasperated.
"So what if I'm sometimes lost in thought."
"If you just listen to me and do what you're told and learn to keep your nosy little mouth shut maybe your life wouldn't be such a complete mess."
"Who's fault do you think it is in the first place?" San Mumbled, but his mother was still not listening.
"Child, if only you would just do what you're told, l—you wouldn't have to argue every day like this." his mother said.
"Fine." San said, frustrated, turning away from her.
"It's not like I wanted to argue. I just wanted you two to stop fighting. You're making Seungyoon cry ." He continued to mumble.
"This matter is not any of your concern San." his mother said sternly.
"Seungyoon crying?" She scoffed before continuing "He shouldn't have been trying to steal food from the panty."
"He's a growing boy and a little food won't hurt."
"The food here is not enough to feed all of us." his mother argued.
"But that's not.." San stuttered.
"We can't be so selfish." his mother said to him. "You are a grown adult and he is only a child."
San looked at his mother and tried to speak, but he had no words.
The words were locked in his throat. He tried to form the words to express what he felt, but nothing came out.
He dropped his head and forced the tears away.
This was the reason he didn't talk to his family often.
Their selfishness blinded them from anything good.
His family thought the magic folk that live nearby were the devils and were not to be trusted.
His mother used to tell stories to him and his cousins on how it was because of magic that his father died.
That he went out into town one day was brutally murder by someone with magic for no reason and no one was punished for it.
At that moment his whole family packed up and moved to almost the middle of nowhere that way they would have no contact with anyone who possessed magic.
