A long time ago, there was a girl named Bella, very friendly and kind to everyone. She was always surrounded by large crowds, beloved by each one of them. She considered all of them her friends and felt like she could trust every single one of them. She always kept everyone's secrets, but who would keep hers? She was tired of listening to everyone's problems and started sharing hers with those familiar faces. Little did she know that these familiar faces turned out to be strangers.
The moment she told someone a secret, they thought she was selfish, that she only cared about herself and that she had to learn to listen to the others instead of bothering them with her problems. The sweet, innocent girl believed them and went back to her old self, only listening to what they had to say.
Being it a small village, everyone soon knew about her secret. Fortunately, it was not something drastic, it was just a small mistake that she made, but did not bring any consequences. But what if it were big, or what if she would have been bothered that everyone knew the slightest secret about her? She was so used to keeping everyone's secrets that she forgot that not everyone is like her and that not everyone was decent enough to keep it to themselves.
One day, a new couple moved into town, bringing along their daughter Lucy. Of course, Bella gave them a warm welcome, but she never thought that it would be a beginning of a new, true friendship. You see, Lucy was very shy and had trouble trusting anyone, but as she met Bella, she slowly opened up and, surprisingly for Bella, Lucy asked her about her life and about what she was going through, too. Bella did not talk as much to the others anymore, as she found it more comforting to talk to someone who listens for a change. This made Bella realize how little her "friends" knew her.
As time went by, the town started turning on her, whispering behind her back as she walked by and judging her for "not being a good friend" or for "not being trustworthy". However, Bella never told Lucy about their secrets, and Lucy did not ask either, so she was not bothered by their opinions. It only made her realize even more how little they knew her.
Bella and Lucy were very close, until one year later, Lucy fell in love with a boy... Bella was supportive and helped Lucy out, planning a perfect date for them. But the closer Lucy got to the boy the lonelier Bella felt. She felt betrayed and thought Lucy was no different than the others.
So, Bella turned to the village, aiming to fill her empty heart with another friend. It did not take long until she went back to her old habits, but the hole in her chest never ceased to exist. Lucy was confused at how her best friend was treating her and tried to talk to her several times, but it was in vain.
Bella was not prepared to share her friend with anyone, so she just decided to let go of her, so that Lucy could be happy. The thing is... Lucy did not want that, so she made a choice. She thought it would be hard to make, but as soon as she left the boy, she felt relieved, because she got to keep a friend.
Maybe it was selfish of Bella to turn on Lucy, making her think twice about who she really wanted to spend time with, but Lucy is the one who made a choice and for the first time in her life, someone put Bella first. Their bond was stronger than anyone or anything and they knew that what they had was special.
Looking around them they could see everyone gathered together, all of them laughing, but in their eyes, they could see how lonely they actually felt, because being around a lot of people isn't important, if they aren't the right people. Friends cannot be made just by seeing a person.
Friendship is built on trust and on partnership, but especially on complicity and on love. The kind of love that overcomes anything. Maybe common stories do not talk about this kind of love enough, but even though it might not be the main idea of a story, this kind of love is always present.
Bella and Lucy were lucky enough to find each other. Maybe you have not found your partner in crime yet, but in time you will find a person that, just like you, needs a friend, a shoulder to cry on. And then, you will be there for each other, having each other's back and even when silent, being able to communicate.
Sometimes you know a stranger better than you know a so called "friend", so be careful with who you choose to let in. Being nice is perfectly fine, but always keep in mind that not everyone is that way...
Moral of the story, nothing feels better than having someone you can trust, especially when we are feeling down, but also to share moments of joy!
